Re: Carvin V3 Is Out

What, no reverb at least for the clean channel? What a rip-off!

I've seen worse looking amp heads. The JSX comes to mind as looking pretty dorky.

I really only like to use a little reverb on my clean sound. For distortion, I like a pretty dry sound with none or maybe a tiny smidge of it at times.

Re: Carvin V3 Is Out

I'm a huge fan of Carvin bass stacks for years , they are THE best bas amps hands down IMO. Looks like Carvin is doing well keeping up with demands in good guitar amp market at cheap prices..this looks very nice..

Peavey wasn't what they used to be either..not since the 5150 put them on the map as a serious amp to be reckoned with..until then Peavey was a a cheaper country amp..or moderate rock amp...especialy tru the 80's..ear
lyt 90's..

But I thought the Legacy looked nice (I love Vai) too..until I played it.. I just remember I was NOT impressed with the Legacy at all ..the gain and the eq control..and overall tone was very uninspring for John and I...it wasn't evem close to what we were lookin' for..

This has my curiousity up..can't waite hear some feedback on this amp..it has tones of features..including tube type swapping ..I assume...Very High gain and El 34s just don't mix that well with me at high volume levels...clarity of 6550s would be cooler IMO..or warmer and girth of 6L6s..

The Carvin cabs are a cheaper alternative to Marshall 1960a/b cabs..I'm sure their built good..Carvin seems to make a decent cab..

and it looks nice..

I am not sure if this amp has EL34/6L6 switchability and I don`t think it has external bias controls on the back, but not sure? Jack.

Re: Carvin V3 Is Out

I much prefer 6L6s in a high gain amp..EL34 , change , compress and color your tone at high volume levels..

which is "cool" if you rely on that for your tone like Eric Johnson and such..

I rely on preamp distortion..with the a clean , lots of headroom from the power amp section..with the least amount of coloration..I want my tone to sound THE SAME at all volume levels..EL34s don't do that!

Re: Carvin V3 Is Out

I agree, except for one instance. I love the EH 6CA7 bug bottle EL34 tubes, kinda like a hybrid, but better at high volumes than the regular EL34`s. Jack.

hmmmm...well if that would give me less coloration..cool. I love the tone I can dial up with my Uber at moderately high levels..it is GODLY but the character totally changes when you raise the volume level past a certain point..I think that's stupid...I didn't dial it that way..i mean WTF.

6550s , KT88s and 6L6s mainstain more coolness for high gain amps at loud levels with MUCH less Bass roll off..and coloration to my ears..I'm partial to KT88s and 6L6s..then 6550's..they don't do that shit.

I say use what works bro for your particular sound, and the only reason I used the EH 6CA7`s was that I had an amp that only used EL34`s and hated the mid squack of the EL34`s and the high volume sound. Jack.
