Re: Let\'s talk cables...

Planet Waves makes a solderless custom cable type thing exactly like George L's, but they look a ton more durable. I swear by Planet Waves for every cable I use, anyways. I know John Petrucci's setup is 100% Planet Waves, as well.

Re: Let\'s talk cables...

Here's some numbers I came up with for 60 cables averaging 2ft - so 120ft of cable and 120 connectors.

George L's:
$89 (cable @ .74 a foot)
$414 (connectors @ 3.45 a piece)
$35 tax
$538 total

Canare cable + Neutrik connectors and I do it myself:
$72 (cable @ .60 a foot)
$300 (connectors @ 2.50 a piece)
$20 shipping
$392 total

Last but not least, I spoke a top notch cable company and asked what it would cost for 60 cables averaging 2 feet - I can specify the exact lengths I want. They use Canare cable, Neutrik straight plugs, and G & H right angle plugs (all gold connectors). They come with a lifetime guarantee. They're price was $580 shipped. The guy said that once I gave him an exact spec list he may be able to hook me up even better.

I just got some of the Planet Waves stuff to do a pedalboard. I will post once I've finished that project.

I'd pay the additional $146 for George L's just to prevent having to break out a soldering iron solder on 120 connectors, but hey. I'm a lazy bastid

I've had good luck with Planet Waves.

No question about that. The thing I'm contemplating though is whether or not to spend the extra $40 and have them made for me ready to go.

A good thing about the George Ls, is that if you move something, buy something or change the signal flow diagram, you just snip snip twist twist... and all is well. And all stays nice and neat.

Plane Wave cables rock
I've just discovered them
They seem well constructed as well
Also I may look into the solderless custom cable kits they have.

I do have to say I've tried the Planet Waves, good cables, but on my CAE3+se/VHT2150 rig, the George L's do sound better. Better bass and treble response. Again, most amps you couldn't tell the diff at all.
