hey JCF bros,
I tried another awesome amp today, the 180 Watt Diezel Herbert!!
I even had a proper USA guitar available for testing this time, a brand new black Charvel San Dimas one hum!
so we hook it up, into an Orange PP412 cab which I believe have the Celestion V30's in them.
channel 3, minor tweak...and holy crap..I can almost instantly hear that this is the best amp I've ever played through...I don't even know what words to put here, it was simply jaw-dropping. Articulation, dynamics, punch, everything just sounded right. It was very responsive to tweaks, just great.
Every riff I threw at it sounded great, it could do Metallica like it was a walk in the park...unbelieveable.
the lead tone on channel 3 was scorching too...
it had a "mid cut" function that was unlike anything I've ever tried on any amp...it just worked absolute wonders with the tone coming through this thing. I believe you can reproduce any metal tone ever made, and invent a few new ones yourself with this baby!
It was really great to feel it response to every nuance in my touch, it's true what they say...tone is in your hands...and a really good amp like this will bring your "signature" to life!
I felt like I had found MY TONE when I was standing there.
Needless to say I got lost with it, even gathered a small crowd in the store
channel 2 was the usual classic rock thing, and the clean on channel 1 was great...everything was great (not to mention the pricetag )
I also got to try a pretty nice Jackson DK-1 black ghost flames through it, (w/EMG pups) and I was pretty surprised to discover that it sounded nothing like the Charvel...all the dynamics and "aliveness" were gone...it was very sterile..which is the re-occuring theme for the EMG 81.
It just really seemed to come to life with the passive Seymour Duncan pup that the San Dimas had...BTW this is listed on charvelguitars.com as a TB-14, does that mean it's a Custom 5 ?
Nothing short of amazing sound...
until I hear Soldano, VHT and Bogner for comparison, this thing is my holy grail of amps!
