Re: Attention POD XT Live users....

See my problem is that I get great tones, but I spend 95% of the time tweaking patches instead of playing because I know there are so many things to play with on it, so I keep seeing how much nicer I can make a patch. I'm finally saying F it and going with a new Randall rig. MTS series probably, so I'll still have a few tones to play with

Re: Attention POD XT Live users....

I got mine for Christmas last year and only last month did I find a distortion sound I like. Be prepared for a long and fuckin' frustrating adventure with that thing. I wish I had gotten a GT-6 or GT-8 haha but I don't wanna get rid of the XT to be able to buy one of those because I have put way too much work into these patches

UPDATE!

Wel, after DAYS of tweaking at home, I took the XT Live to the practice place to crank it up and see what it could do. After making some minor adjustments to the patches I created due to louder volume, I got a nice, thick-but-not-muddy-gain tone that I really liked. Then, just for the hell of it, I A/B'd it with my current Behringer rig.
The tones were identical.
And I mean I-dentical.
In fact, I turned the A/B box away from me so that I couldn't tell from the LEDs which amp I was switching to, and I couldn't tell the difference at all. Apparently all I had done was get the same exact tone from the XT Live that I was already getting out of my Behringer stuff.
So Ye Olde XT Live will be going back to GC tomorrow. If I couldn't tell the Line 6 tones from the behringer tone, I might as well save myself $400.
The funny thing was that, just for the hell of it, I hooked up my old rig that used a Digitech GSP21, and THAT sounded like the tone I had with the Behringer and Line 6. I guess my ear just listens for a specific tone, and I manage to tweak that tone out of whatever gear I happen to be using at the time.
Weird.

Wow, I had a V-amp2 and thought it was ok, but a lot muddier and 'low fi' than the XT.

Yeah, that's the whole reason I bought the XT...I thought I was going to get more "hi fi" tones from it. Damn if they didn't sound excatly the same though. The "JCM 800" on the XT and the "California Custom Gain" on the V-Ampire were indistinguishable.

That is weird, because mine sounded worlds apart. Oh well! It's a good thing to get your $400 back if they sound the same to ya.

it all depends on what firmware version you are using.

i've rolled back to 2.3 and like it alot better than 2.4 and 2.5. they were just too bass heavy for my taste.

What amp setting are you guys using to the most? (Plexi, JCM, Solo 100, etc) Maybe I'm just not digging into it like I should. I know the Line 6 stuff is made MUCH better than the behringer stuff. Should I hold onto it for a bit and keep messing with it, maybe roll back that ol' firmware? I have a full 30 days to take it back.

Re: Attention POD XT Live users....

that's the reason i have always used boss fx. started with a ds-1 and flanger pedals, then traded them for a gx700. sadly i sold this off and forgot all my settings - duh! got a gt-6 and later added the gt-8. the way in which fx work on these two machines is not identical. the wah section has parameters switched making it impossible to completely superseed the gt-6. i'm looking to sell off my gt-6 with a view to putting it towards a jackson dk2ff or a focusrite trakmaster pro.

i'd wait till the 25th day to decide to take it back or not. and try rolling back the firmware.

How do I roll back the firmware? I couldn't find any info for that on the Line 6 site.

Re: Attention POD XT Live users....

you need to download line6 monkey for the line6 website. and attach your xtl to your comp using the provided usb cable.

this will enable you to store your current patches and upgrade or downgrade your firmware and all that jazz.

I'd like there to be a place, where I could get good XT live tones, that people USED and were GOOD.

When I try to DL them from the Line6 site, I seem to end up with all of the shit tones

Subvamp, take the time to try out a GT8. Again, the UI is MUCH easier. Also, it has some cool-useable right out of the box. I was going after a XTL and played with them both side by side....the GT8 went home with me. You dont have to soend money for packs or anything. You dont have to by this and that. Its just straightforward. Some of my fave factory settings are the 5150 Solo, The Triamp, and the 1959 with OD. You can DL patches from bossgtcentral through the midi ports. Pre-amp controls are right up front. Quick learning curve. I am not saying this is the be-all end-all of processors, but, it is one helluva bang for the buck in my opinion. -Lou
