Thanks guys -Nothing around here its buy before u try/
Turning 40 this year and I am just not as heavy as I use to be. Starting to look for some rock tones I have never had before. Want to dig out the 78 Tele once and a while. Don't really want a one trick amp-Already got a triple and a 2204 I bought new.

Well shit fire and save the matches then Happy 40th year ....

Now git in your car, load up your 78 Tele, come to Portland and play it through a Dr. Z Maz 18 Jr. like I did today and you will just shit....it would be a great compliment to your current amps. As cool as the Bogner stuff is - and its waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cool, the Maz 18 Jr. with a Tele is just to die for....Think Tom Petty tones but rawer

Re: Diezel, Bogner Shootout.

ALright. Let me ask if I can. I have a Tri-Axis - 2/90 set up sterio into a Marshal 1960 Lead (four 75 Cel) that I use live and it owns.

I tried a Bogner somethimg or other recently and it was cool, but it was not head and shoulders above my setup.

Am I crazy? Are the different Bogners that much different.

A Buddy just picked up a B-52 thing that I had never heard that is pretty versital for the record, but I still like my Mesa/Marshall thing better.

What about Desiel. How do these compare to Mesa?

Any input appreciated (Sorry, not meaning to steal the thread, but this got my atttention!)

Re: Diezel, Bogner Shootout.

you know i saw a group a few years ago, cant remember who now, but the guitarist used basically the same set up but going into mesa cabs and his tone was flat out wicked.

If you got something that is working for you then keep with it. That is actually a very nice setup and very verstile. I have been thinking of doing a triaxis with a carvin amp so i can have controll over the bias. like all mesa amps there poweramps are also biased very cold, well except for the 20/20.

Did someone say Dr. Z Maz and a 78 Telecaster? My Maz is a 38 SR NR 1x12 combo. It's brilliant!

I played the Maz 18 Jr. , The Route 66, The Carmen Ghia and a Z 28....used my Anderson Cobra and a Fender Am Std Tele that was hanging on the wall...my Cobra with the Holmes buckers split and running together did a better "Tele" tone than the Tele

The amps were just astounding...I must admit it had me thinking about a major downsize in the rig...The Maz 18 Jr. was just killer - I will undoubtedly own one...

Super sweet rig you've got there. How does the Maz Sr. compare to the rest ?

p.s. - all the amps I played were red too

Re: Diezel, Bogner Shootout.

I've played most of the Z amps - a buddy of mine owned every model. I used to own a Ghia 2x10 combo and a KT-45 head. The Ghia is simply amazing although I would not buy a 2x10 combo again - a 1x12 or a head would be kickass though. The KT-45 is insanely cool - basically the ultimate Hiwatt tone. But I sold the KT-45 when I got the Maz SR. The Maz is just more versatile and cleans up better when you roll off your guitar level. Also, I felt the KT-45 was not as suited to single coils as the Maz is.

Agreed, the Ghia was a super close second for me with the Maz Jr. and actually was a shade more aggressive in character...gotta love the one volume knob, one tone knob setup. If you can't make it work with that, well I guess you're screwed A used Ghia might be one of the best deals going out there. Dare I say chuckracer might really like messing around with one of those - and the little SOB will get plenty loud. Ran the Ghia head into a Z 1x12 with a Greenback - sounded awesome

Re: Diezel, Bogner Shootout.

I used to gig with my Ghia all the time when I was in a pop/rock band - we played small clubs and I never had to turn it up past halfway. I did use an amp stand though to get it off the floor - that made a big difference.

did you mess around with the mid cut function on the Herbert? and what guitar did you try it with?

Yeah i played with the mid cut, played with the presense (i usually dont use any), trust me i tried everyting to try to like this amp. Next i will go back and play through different cabs, maybe it was the cab. Oh i used my gibson SG studio with the 500T humbucker which is my favorite and mostly use.

ok, cool. maybe it was just the USA Charvel mojo that had me gettin' great tone out of that thing...ssshh, naaah!!
this makes me wanna try the Bogner, BAD!

Re: Diezel, Bogner Shootout.

Interesting. Personally I find the tone of the XTC 101b to be far more compressed sounding to my ears than the Herbert or VH4.

Also cabs can make a huge difference. I run my Herbert thru a Diezel V30 frontloaded 4X12 cab... I haven't found a rearloaded cab that can handle the lowend Herbie puts out w/o farting. Also, be very careful with the gain & bass knobs. Start at 12:00 and tweak from there. Don't be afraid to crank up the presence to ~ 3:00. The Herbert has a ton of preamp gain and bass on tap, so a little goes a long way.

Also, no one amp works for everyone, so maybe the XTC just works better for you, which is cool.

YMMV.

I always start all controls at midway (12:00) and tweek from there. Like i said i think i will have to sit down with it again when there are less people in that place and try different cabs etc... I am not saying i hated it, just saying for the price i couldnt justify paying for it. To me the bogner just sounded better and i just picked up a used one with the A/AB option and master outs for each channel for 2600 so i think i will be happy for awhile.
