i am one of those idiots who doesn't know what he wants. i'm trying to record my guitar, knowing that what i hear will end up exactly when i play back my multitrack. i live in a small room approx 9ft by 18ft(i'm guessing) and want an amp that will sound as true as possible whilst being played quietly. it would have a rec-output and a mid-eq cut (i forget the actual name of this) and a clean input jack. i'd prefer an amp that's about 17"inches in size or bigger. suggestions? i tried a crate amp but it had a head putting the cost a little too high over my budget.

Re: looking to get an amp
If you're on a tight budget and you need good sound in a compact package at low volumes, check out the Tech 21 Trademark series.
If you have a bigger budget and are okay with running a head into your recorder, try the THD Univalve: Line out with a clean input jack. Also has an attenuator built in.

Re: looking to get an amp
ah, i remember - it's the "scoop" eq i'm after. there's none on the crate amp but there is on the head. i've seen a line6 amp for just 200 pounds sterling. a friend bought a marshall for around 350 some years ago. if an amp won't do, i was thinking of a focusrite trakmaster pro - a channel strip that has a mid-scoop, costing 180 pounds.Fuck ebay, fuck paypal

Re: looking to get an amp
i tried a marshall vt150 (very nice natural sound) against a line6 spider ii 30w amp yesterday. why is the eq on these amps so inaudible? what a load of crap. are there any REAL amps out there?Fuck ebay, fuck paypal

Re: looking to get an amp
Check out a Roland Cube, whichever size suits your needs. I believe the COSM preamp uses the same models as the Boss GTs, but whether or not they're the same, the Cube 30 I tried had some awesome distortions. It had a direct-recording output, but it's small enough that you could probably build a little isolation box and mic it.
Sounded better than any of the small Crate solid state combos, that's for sure.

+1 on the Tech 21 stuff. I've also got a Univalve on the way!
With the Tech 21 Tri-AC pedal I've got, as well as a Boss GT-8 and the Univalve, I'll probably never need any kind of amp gear again, well, at least until my GAS flares up again next year. I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

Re: looking to get an amp
Oh, yeah, you don't need a stupid mid eq scoop. If you like a scooped mid sound, just turn your midrange control down. Should be scooped enough that way for you. Though, mids are essential and should be used! I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.
