I spent more time on the Soldano/T100 today. I found a few things wrong with my set up.
#1. The Ross 31 band EQ was contributing greatly to the canned ass sound I was getting. Even when switched out, it did serious damage to the sound because it isn't a true bypass. It muffled the sound when not active and when it was active it made it sound a little processed and metallic. It also loosened up the bottom end for some reason.
#2. Both speakers in one of my Randall cabinets were a little loose. This was part of the reason for the farty flubby sounding bottom end when I was palm muting.
#3. The controls on the Soldano ARE active. They all effect each other just like a Boogie. I had it dialed in like a Marshall and that doesn't work. I have it just right now. The midrange control is the most active one on this preamp and it really shapes your overall tone.
#4. The presence controls on the Carvin T100 were up too high. I backed them down to around 3:00. This took all the harshness out of the tone.
When I get my recording gear in I will absolutely post clips.
I love my Soldano SP-77.
Holy crap. I am finally out of my playing and my tone rut.
All I need now is a G-Major so I can get rid of my pedal board. They are sucking a little bit of my tone out.
So far, the things I like the best about it are:
I can shred totally dry with the gain on 6.
Chords are extremely articulate.
The clean channel is outstanding.
The SP77 reacts really well to rolling down the guitar volume.
The tube suggestions I was given by the fine members of this board were PERFECT.
As soon as I can record a clip I'll post it.
I hear you Chuck but I would have to sell the T100 first. Timing is everything in this case because I don't have many guitar amps left. A Mesa 50/50 would be perfect. I willmost likely go for the power amp first. I don't really need a G-Major yet. I.. like you, prefer the blackface intellifex.

Have you every tried the Replifex? I haven't, but I've always been interested in trying one. They seem to be Rocktrons attempt at what the G Major is: lots of useful guitar-secific effects, plus the nice channel switching feature for a small(er) rack setup.
Never tried the Replifex.
The reason I am looking for a processor is this:
When I hook up my pedal board between the SP77 and the poweramp I loose a tiny bit of clarity in the highs. Its very small but noticeable to me. Its most likely because most of my Boss pedals aren't true bypass. I was thinking that a processor like a G-Major would be more transparent.
I am also looking into picking up a parametric EQ so that I could dial the missing frequencies back into my sound.
I don't want to mess with the purity of the SP77 tone which is outstanding. I need to have this all sorted out by this weekend when I am auditioning my new rig to Aftermath. We have several gigs lined up that are pretty important and they are concerned about my guitar sound. They still insist that I use my Boss GT-6 running through my 5150II. I would prefer to use my Soldano so I am bring both to the studio and we are going to a/b them. The other option which would be alot less expensive would be to get a loop switch so that I could bypassh the pedal board. I don't think that its the best solution though and I am not in the position to compromise. If I can get back the missing high frequencies with a paramatric EQ I will be all set..... I think.

Not only the non-bypass aspect. The REAL issue is it is different impedances.
Pedals don't always deal with Line Level Impedances so well. And high end preamps don't always being loaded with non line impedance effects either.
Aside from that, think about this. You are running a high end amp, into a $30 Boss pedal that was made as cheaply as they possibly could, and then back into a nice power amp. You have a limiting factor there taking away from your potential.
