I like em. But they do need a bit more bottom end. The 120 watt head has more bottom end than the 60watt. But yo can always add it with an eq or something too. Pretty reliable from my experience with them. They worked for Marty Friedman for a while altho they may have been modded they still sounded pretty damn good.

I heard a few BV120's and they sounded good. Affordable too. They sell for around $350.00-$400.00 used.
Mu suggestion would be to save up some additional money and get a 5150. If you only have $350-$400 to spend you should look at a Carvin MTS3200.

So I was wondering if I should get the BV120H since I could find a bunch on ebay for like 350.

Yeah......There's a reason you find so many of them on there.

If you want a cheap tube amp. Save up and wait for the new peavey Valve King.

Is it just me that all Crate amps have really annoying high range?

All their high gain amps do. I think they call it Flexwave technology. Its the SS portion of their preamp in both their SS and Tube amps.
The Vintage Club series doesn't have it. Most (if not all) of the VC's are excellent.

I must be nuts because I don't like those amps much. At least not compared to the immediate competition at that price point - Fender Hot Rod series and Peavey Classic series are much better IMO.

Actually of all of the amps in any of those series by Crate/Fender/Peavey, I think the Fender Pro Junior is the best of the lot. It's just one of the original 50's tweed circuits put on a PCB and made in Mexico. Swap the speaker for a Weber or a Celestion and you have a bitchin' blues/rock rig for under $400. I gigged with mine - 18 watts of snarling tube tone - I cut through a drummer a couple other guitarists and bass players with much bigger rigs.

i reccomend either the carvin mts3200 like jgcable suggested or a fender roc pro 1000. these 2 are much better bang for the buck. and the roc pro can be had for less than 200 used. and they sound great!

I really like my BV tonewise, and I get a lot of compliments on the sound, but it does have a small problem getting lost in the mix sometimes. I have to crank it pretty loud to be heard at rehearsal, and then everyone complains that I'm too loud. Can't win for trying. You really need a lead boost for the BVs too, because the high frequencies don't seem to have any power.

One of the other guitar players in my band uses a BV120H, and it sounds ok....but not nearly as good as my Dual Rectifier or the Marshall that the other guitarist uses.

This amp sounded different every time I've tried it. When I first tried it, I used a Gibson LP custom, and it sounded really nice, then I tried a PRS custom 24 which also sounded nice, and then I tried cheap guitars, and to no surprise, it sounded shitty.

If you have the money to blow on a Crate product, you have the money to buy something decent second hand.
