I love Carvin gear, but with the amps the first verson of a series usually has some bugs to work out. I got the first Xv212 series combo and it didn't sound nearly as good as later X-amps. I also had 2 Valve Master heads and the earlier one wasn't as nice as the later one either. Carvin is reasonable on their repairs, but they won't upgrade an older amp to the newest specs for free. I might see how they shake out in a year or so, then get one.

Good point, but on the other hand the most sought after mesa dual recto's are the first 500 made or any of the earlier 2 channel versions.

I am a big fan of all that is Carvin but we are comparing Mesa's engineering and manufacturing department back then to Carvin's today. Mesa had all top notch builders hand building everything when the 1st 500 Rectifiers were made. Carvin has employees. Mesa also gave out alot of Rectifiers to pro's to try before they released them. Carvin gives out NOTHING. Only their employees get stuff to try out.

mh...same thing goes for the 5150 block letter vs. signature heads, though.

Well, Carvin does give you a 10-day trial period to test it out. If you don't want it or don't like it for any reason, you get to send it back and you're only out the shipping. That being said, first versions of most products do tend to have some little flaws that get revised and updated. I'd still love to see a review of this... so please buy one now, you gear whore, and tell me what you think!

i am VERY close to buying one. the big thing is that i am so happy with my current amps that i have to make up a reason to even justify the purchase. it's affordable enough, but i just don't need it....

decisions, decisions......
GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

Re: Carvin V3 now available

Someone posted some rhythm clips of the V3 on the HCAF and I was let down a ton, especially considering the lead clips and the clean tone clips were pretty nice sounding. Then I read a review from a dude on the Carvin board that had already recieved his and he said that it was basically a legacy with more warmth and more umph in the lead department, but then he said something to the extent of that the rhythm tones are great for that (paraphrased) scooped, sizzling nu metal / hard rock tone. I even think he said something about it being similar to some an active bee hive. That was a total turn off for me. I really hope someone with a neutral ear will pick up one of these and jam on it a bit to see how it sounds; hopefully also recording some clips as well.

Clips are useless. WAY too many varibles, and any amp can be made to sound like shit.

Damn, I would really like to try one of those out. That will never happen though. Unless of course I win the lottery and can afford to throw money around.

Re: Carvin V3 now available

I agree about sound clips..but sometimes that's all you have to go by..which sucks..because there are too many varibles involved ..but at least ..you can hear what sonic territory the amp could put you in..if anything.

hmmm.. far as the whole sought after early model hype..I think it's just that..I owned five 5150s, three block and two script..of all of them I had ONE "sweet" one..all the others were consistant and identical.

The Dual Recto..well lets just say I bought the very first one in my area..as soon as that add came out with the Armadillo...and played many Dual rectos since...There's no difference to my ears.

I never had a Carvin guitar amp..but their Bass rigs are the bomb!

That V3 looks promising for the money...that's for sure.

Re: Carvin V3 now available

I never went for sound clips either on a website, there is so many ways to fatten up a tone with EQ'ing it etc.. Not to mention just the plan fact of recording something that is mic'd brings a whole new element into the mix. Then you are also playing it through speakers on a computer/home stereo that can be better or worse. Not to mention ia m not sure about you guys, but when ever i do play a clip in window's media player i make sure to zero the eq to flat response (all right in the middle) so this way i am not changing the tone by changing the eq on it. LIke said there are jut to many varibles to judge an amp or guitar by clips posted on the ineternet or even given on a tape, to me i need that amp in front of me, i need to sit down with it and play with it for hours, perfect example is i am sure i heard many soldano SLO amps in recordings, they sounded killer, i have owned one for the last week, tried everything in the world and can not get it to sound like i want!

The vid is cool...I definitely like the options and layout. Perfect actually.

From what I hear it sound a lot like a 5150. Not a bad thing to me.

I gave it several listens, it's got potential I think. You never know till you get it home though.
