Re: The stomp boxes are the problem!!

I have been researching the G-major for the last few days. Its ashame I have to spend so much money for a processor and footcontroller just for a solo boost, delay, chorus,
reverb and a tuner. I want to play mainly dry with a touch of reverb and for solos I want a boost with a little delay. I only need chorus for the clean parts in some songs.
I posted a question on GT Central regarding my GT6 being used as an effects processor only. My question to them is if the ins and outs of the GT6 are the same level as a studio processor such as a G-Major or an Intellifex or are they the same as a pedal board full of stomp boxes.
Is there any other processors that would give me the effects and solo boost I need? I am trying to get away from massive amounts of effects and processing but the ones I mentioned are necessary.

John - the Boss VF-1 can do what you want. I just got one again and am having a blast with it.

Tim, I would be able to insert it between my Soldano preamp and the poweramp? How would you suggest foot controlling it? I would only need 2 boosted presets for soloing and 2 presets with effects when I have to go clean. Does it mess with the tone after its inserted like my stomp boxes do?

It doesn't mess with your tone unless you tell it to

Mine is going into a switcher when the switcher arrives.

You can switch between -20db and +4db so it should have no issues running inline with your preamp/poweramp.

As for foot controlling it - any MIDI foot controller should work.

The ART foot controllers are pretty tough also. Ugly but tough. And cheap. They can be had for 50 bucks or so on eBay. John don't you still have one of Pete's nuke boosts? I thought you had 2 of them actually. That works great for any boosting I've been doing. With the sp77 I noticed it gave it a little more mid range punch. With the SLO it's pretty transparent and just boosts the volume and gain.

Yea Pete but it sounded like canned ass. I couldn't get the processed cheese wiz sound to dissappear. I switched the GT6 to manual mode, I turned off the preamps, the amp and cabinet modeling and it still severely buffered my tone. I might have had the output settings set up wrong though. I am going to try it again tonight. I wish somebody could tell me if it has the same line level input and outputs that a traditional effects processor has. Maybe its in the specs in the owners manual. I have the money for a G-Major. I will most likely just get one and be done with it. The only thing I don't like about the G-major is the foot controller isn't powered by the midi cable. I still have to run an extension cord out to the front of the stage. That sucks.

I got a GCX and 7pin midi cable to solve that problem. But I hate bringing a rack and a pedalboard (plus amps, cab, guitars, cables). Trying now to leave the rack at home and just bring a pedalboard.

My XTL sounds great through my JSX, but it sounded HORRIBLE through my mesa racktifier. Had a weird out of phase 'woosh' sound the whole time, and was really muddy. Clear as a bell on the JSX though.
