Which one are you using? I'm getting a G-major which has a PQ in it. Would you recomend a stand alone unit? If so which one?

Re: Good Parametric EQ\'s RULE

Cut and pasted from one of my posts on one of the many P-EQ threads:

The "digital" parametric in the G-Major is "nice" to have, but truly isn't a good representative of a true parametric like a TC-1140 or a furman. Just good for mild tweaking here and there IMO. There is something interesting about the TC and Furman that can make a somewhat sedate amp chug and crunch nicely.

Buy the G-Major, because it is one of the best time based effect units around for the money, and not so much for the EQ in it.

Although I also had very high hopes for the EQ, it is merely "nice" to have in that unit, and sadly isn't really "the" selling point of that unit.

I am using a Rane SP-15. It is very similar to the Furman 5 band which I believe is a PEQ-5.
The TC-1104 is very good too.
I wouldn't recommend getting a Parametric until after you get your G-Major. You might not need it. I bought one to address a specific problem frequency in my guitar tone. It did the job bigtime and allowed me to shape my guitar sound exactly the way I wanted it to sound like. Its the single best piece of tone shaping gear I have purchased in a really long time.

I never even used an outboard EQ!!!!!

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

I thought I was gonna have to hand deliver one to JG, and now look at him! Hehe...

I have a Rane PE-17 on the way. I used to use a parametric EQ pedal once in a while - that was fun.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

I used to run graphic EQ's with my amps...I found that I always ended up liking them better without them in it.

That said, I don't like the 5150 cab all that much, and don't see a need to put a BBE in the loop (but I might try it out soon). I'm definitely in the minority.

Graphic EQ's are for pussies. No wonder you like the amp better without one. Parametric is the only way to go.

Which brand and model P/EQ do you guys reccomend for my first one? Do you run them in front or through the loop? I never owned one. Thanks-Jack.

I used to use graphics and then about 3 years ago I got my first PQ. Never go back. Graphic eq's are a waste of money IMO.
