  • Rivera K55T Knucklehead

Does anyone know what these are like? Some guys are saying they are high gain, and some are saying they are not, and only good for rock, not metal. What's the deal?

they are good rock amps. i think the old knucklehead will do classic metal okay, but would need a pedal for extreme metal.
    GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

    and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

      Re: Rivera K55T Knucklehead

I recall seeing an ad for the Knucklehead endorsed by the dude from Slipknot. I don't know if it's the same model as your talkin about because I'm not too familiar with their line, but Slipknots got a pretty heavy tone...so maybe, lol.

        Re: Rivera K55T Knucklehead

I just read that Slipknot only used the Rivera for the clean channel on the new record...

and a mix of bogner uberschall vht UL and jcm800 for the gain stuff.

          Re: Rivera K55T Knucklehead

I recorded using a Knucklehead last winter, and ended up using only the clean channel with my trusty ART Xtreme for distortion. What you've heard is true - the Knucklehead isn't cut out for metal.

well... a good friend of mine uses the knucklehead 100w head with a rivera cab and it does metal VERY well.. (but true, he uses the amp to push it into light distorion then adds a overdrive pedal in front to push it harder

              Re: Rivera K55T Knucklehead

The K55T is a K55 top (head) version. It is not a high gain amp, just a solid rock amp. I see it as a refined JCM 800.

The guys from Slipknot use the KHR model which is a totally different amp. Three channel high gain out the ass w/reverb monster.

I owned a K55T with a high gain mod (done by Paul) and was still not a high gain amp. Just very defined and LOUD.

I currently own the KHR55 EL-34 and it is just awesome. Like all the stuff Paul puts out.

I'm a metal head myself, and I own a kr100 head(6l6)/ rivera 412 cab, and love them! Soloing on it is a world on its own! I will admit that I use the gain all the way up on the 3rd channel to get me off though! It does lack a little on the bottom end, and on the presence as well! I'll note that I love TONS of presence though! The clean channel on the kr100 is out of this world! I ran a dist pedal over it, and it didn't sound as good as channel 3! I also just put a new EMG 81 on my sl1, and have fallen in love with my sound all over again!! Can't go wrong with KR100, metalwise, or Rivera for that matter! I'll be getting their Los Lobottom 500w 212 cab pretty soon! If you haven't checked one of those out, I guarantee you'll buy one, regardless of what kinda tunes you play!!
                    I love admins!

I talked to Jim (slipknot) they didn't use the rivera on the album at all. All bogner, vht, boogie dc 10 and a modded marshall. I don't think they ever used them live either. he's always used his dc 10 and modded bogner. he's also using a diezel herbert now also.
