Using 2 heads with one cab.???

Okay, so let's say that I have one amp that has a killer clean sound, and another with an awesome overdrive sound. I know it is possible to run an A/B switch to select between the heads, BUT, is it possible to use the same cabinet? Maybe if I built an A/B switch that had an input from my guitar, and 2 outputs for the heads, but also had two inputs from the heads, and one output for the cab.

Or, is there an easier way to do it?

Take a look at the HS2 head switcher.

You DO NOT want to just use an A/B switch, because one head will be sitting there with no load...goodbye output transformer!

$229 thru MF without the remote footswitch.

Personally, I'd go with the Axess stuff. EXTREMELY high quality gear.

if you want full flexibility then go with http://www.soundsculpture.com/products/headtrip.htm yeah it is a little more, $680, but it lets you put 3 heads into 1 or 2 cabs or pick which cab you want to use with each head. Also works at a external switcher, i believe can switch 8 different things off and on, All around just a very verstile peice of equiptment.

how would you work that then? would you leave one head on the distortion channel and one on the clean? I saw the headbone thingy had a switch, and I am assuming it is used to switch between the two heads. Also, would that limit you to using fx? say you wanted a reverb pedal or something. Would you simply put it somewhere in the path of one of the heads before the switcher?

or on the way into the switcher like a pedalboard. maybe not everyones favorite position for a certain effect but it would solve the problem.

I've heard good stuff about the Axess stuff. I own the Tonebone Cabbone (cabinet switcher) and it is built like a tank. I had a Tonebone Classic and it was built like a tank too. Extremely high quality stuff.

If you have a stereo cab and an A/B box, then you could use one half of the cabinet for one amp and one half for the other amp as long as you have appropriate impedances. The downside is that only half the speakers would get used for each amp except if you combined both amps at the same time provided your A/B switch allows A & B to be combined....btw, that might give an interesting sound....probably not something you'd use very often, but could be kinda cool.
