Of course everybody has there opinion, for ME...in the bedroom at low volume...the Recto vintage channel is awesome. At volume....I think the DSL is a killer amp...it just needs to breath to bring that bottom end and bark to the table. JMO

i think the question is, do you want a marshall or a mesa sound?
to me the DSL/TSL amps sounds best at medium volume...master around 3-5. at low volume, they sound crappy like any tube amp, but in contrast to old marshalls which really start to live when cranked, the DSL/TSL series start to sound like shit if the master is past noon (IMHO).
at medium volume they DO deliver the classic marshall bark and growl, with a nice modern twist. don't get one if you like a lot of gain, as it muddies up fast imho. but if you're rather conservative when using the gain, you can get many great sounds out of them.
having that said, i'm still GASing for a recto....

Re: So this guy wants to trade...whadda ya think?
It's a straight trade, a Marshall DSL for a Recto single 50, I would get the Mesa. He didn't think it was a series two tho but that would mena little to me at this point.
The DSL's used to sell out at guitar center for like 500-600 new or demo used. From pricing it out on eBay, DSL Marshalls seem to be getting about the same price range, about 600-700 on a good deal. He was also open to a JMP-1 and a el34 monoblock as well, but given the price of JMP-1's current going rate, that wouldn't be a good deal.
His complaint with the Mesa was that he wanted more edge and the Mesa was 'too smooth' of a amp voice.
