I've heard one of the best sounding analog units, is the old rocktron "Guitar Silencer"

Yep, I have one of these that I use for recording and even hauled around on top of my pedalboard to gigs for a long time. Really cleans up my signal, even with a ton of gain and a noisy EQ.

The best gate I ever used was the MXR Smart Gate.

Yup the g-major noise gate works well with my 5150.

NS-2 + 4 cable method = No feedback

[/ QUOTE ]

I also like to amend that with "No Hiss" and "No White Noise"

How exactly do you hook it up, do you put it through the loop of your amp and have the guitar goto the second input?

This is off the top of my head.

Guitar - > NS-2 Input
Effects Loop Send - > NS-2 Return
Effects Loop Return - > NS-2 Output
Amp Input - > NS-2 Send

700The noise gate in my rack mount Boss GX-700 is great. I love it. the lead channel is super quiet until you hit that first chord.

I used the NS-2. Worked very well and is cheap used. Around $50 bucks...

Is this right? I tried it and my amp was not very happy. What if you just run the NS-2 in the loop with your other effects? Does it do anything? Or is it better to run it through the front before the tuner?

What amp were you running it with? What mode was the pedal set to? What were your settings for threshold and decay?

The setup's purpose is to really tame the amp itself, so if you're using it in conjunction with some pedals that are noisey then you might not be getting that good of results.

The loop on the NS2 is mainly there for putting effects into it if your amp doesn't have a loop. Though, I'm sure it will work fine like Inearthed states.
Usually, I'll just use it by itself either in front of the amp or in the amp's loop.

That's the beauty of the NS-2, there's like 3 different positions you can put it in.

All right my ISP Decimator came today and oh boy this thing
is good. You have to be careful not to turn it up too much
or it clips the signal too quick, but when adjusted correctly
(I'm running it in the loop to kill the hiss) it works
perfectly. I notice no change in my tone at all.
it didn't even take long to dial it in correctly.
this thing is great! Couldn't be any easier.
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

I will also vouch for the decimator. I bought one after reading the last noise reduction thread in this section and my Hush was immediately retired to the junk room. Don't know how it works but twist to find the noise floor and silence..no loss of tone. The Hush is junk in comparison.
