I might give that a shot, but what was the effect on the distorted tones?

It wont effect the dirty sound at all. One tube for the cleans and one for the Dirt!

thanks for all the advice. I'm gonna start with the cheapest (replacing one of the tubes with a 12AT7) and work my way up from there!

Something I might mention, is that Voodu Valves come with a low gain JAN/GE 5751 tube in it instead of the 12ax7. And a 12ax7a is often stuck in them for more gain, but that sounds like ass.

I'm a gain head and use the 5751 in the voodu.

I have used that tube a few times to tame amps...

Is there a lower gain output than a JAN/GE 5751 tube? I've got a Voodu Valve and dig it, but trying to get a clean sound using the "low gain" setting is tough, especially when trying to match the high gain setting for volume. For my high gain, I'm using only 48 out of 100 for gain, so I think I've got plenty to spare if a lower output preamp tube was available.

Bert, Change the number 1 tube out to a 12AT7 This will really make a difference in your clean sound. That's what I did with my Piranha.

John,
Is that the setup in the Piranha I am sitting next to now?
