best preamp for metal tones?

I am wondering what you guys think the best pre amp for good metal tones is. I am talking about pure,heavy, insane metal tones... not sitting in our basements playing with our toys metal tones. I use the clean channel sparingly at the most, and I am wondering what is the best preamp for the lowest price when it comes to metal tones.

Here is a tangent question. Say one was to jump on these cool preamps, what would be the best reasonably priced Power amp to go with it? < ~$500.

Well, going with the Sansamp, they recommend a SS power amp, but others have had success with a tube poweramp. Might be one of those thing you have to hear for yourself. For the others, I love VHT power amps, but Carvin makes some great stuff too, all priced very reasonably. I think I recall them having a power amp in that price range, can't recall the model # though

Hey, that's a kickass little pedal right there man. It still does good today. In fact, I think I recall that being in the setup of one of the guitarists from At The Gates, and they had a heavy as hell tone
