• Is there any better than Roland JC?

Now that I have my Uber for my metal tone, I am in search of a crystal clean amp. I'm thinking about the Roland JC120 but would like to know of other options. They must be popular because every dealer is sold out.

Nothing beats a JC120 for crystalline clean tones. Not for under $5000 anyway

I dunno. I think they sound really good, but I also really like Mesa Lonestars, Fender Vibroluxs, Vox AC30s, Orange AD30s, Ampeg Reverberockets, and even the Marshall DSLs for clean stuff. Don't limit yourself, go try some different things.

A Roland JC would not be my first choice. A Fender Twin Reverb is the king of clean in my book. Much warmer tone. And it's more fullerer sounding too You can score a silverface Twin for less than the cost of a JC120 no problem. A Twin with an analog chorus pedal is just about perfection.

A Twin is definitely in my future.

I second hippie. I wouldn't buy a JC120 with your money! A Twin Reverb is the way to go...

Don't believe the hype - they're just trying to corner the market on 120s

Seriously, tube amps will almost always introduce a bit of dirt into the sound, whereas solid state will be clean all the way, even if they are a bit more brittle and icepickish. If you want totally crystal cleans with no dirt and plenty of punch, a JC120 is the way to go.

Newc - a Twin Reverb doesn't introduce any dirt into the sound until you turn it up to where your ears are bleeding.

+2 Twin Reverb, Super Reverb, Carvin Belair, X60, X100B, Legacy, Peavey Ultra, Supreme, Transtube, Roland JC120, Crate VC50. There are a ton of great clean amps.
Twin Reverb would be my first choice.

Re: Is there any better than Roland JC?

i, too, would take a twin reverb over a JC120. i used to have a JC120 head, and thought that it sounded "weak". i don't know how to explain it, but i hated it. i am SUPER picky about my clean sounds too...WAAAAYYY more picky about my clean over my distorted tones.

another option would be rivera. if i couldn't have a fender for clean, i'd have a rivera JUST for clean....and if you really want the true stereo chorus get a river S120. 120 watts of tube power AND real chorus like on the roland amp.
GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

I dislike the JC120 so much that I would probably buy a Fender M-80 Chorus stereo 2x12 combo before I bought the JC120. Save some bucks too!

Twin, Super or VibroVerb are the kings of warm clean.

You can crank the Twin and Super to the moon and they maintain headroom. The VibroVerb will get some sting if you crank it, but not that much.

The JC-120 is a good option, but it is sterile compared to the Fenders.

With that said, I used to get a nice clean tone out of my JCM-900

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

It all depends on what kind of clean sound your after, give us some song names and bands, and also as far as them being sold out, i'm pretty sure they dont make them anymore, so no wonder they are sold out! :P
