• i'm going for it!!! carvin V3

i'm gonna bite the bullet and try the carvin V3!!!! i've been going back and forth about it because i really don't need it...but i figure "what the heck" it can be my christams present. i've been wanting a "modern" amp for a while, specifically the Engl savage 120, but i am too cheap. hopefully the carvin will fit the bill.

of course i'll give a review after i get it. i'm ordering the amp tonight. can't wait.

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

Can't wait to hear your impressions of the amp. For refrence, what amps will you be comparing it with? What type of tones do you like?

well, i'll be comapring it to 2 1990 riveras, an m100 and an s120, a soldano astoverb with a hotmod and a 1963 fender tremolux. i'll be using it with 2 rivera c112 cabs with EVM12L speakers, a rivera c210 with carvin V10 speakers, a marshall 4x12 with 35 watt celestions, and a pair of hollywood enclosures 1x12s with JBL G12s speakers.

as far as tones, i like the more "vintage" metal tones of like maiden, etc...what i am hoping for is more of the "modern" tones like the power-metal guys use. as far as clean, i'm still shooting for a fender-esque clean.

my expectations of the amp are that i can get close to my fender in the clean, my rivera in the crunch, and my soldano in the lead. we shall see. those are pretty high expectations.

From the clips it sounds really tight, almost solid state. that's not a bad thing, but I'm looking forward to hearing a review, especially after you've had it a month or so.

Thanks for taking the plunge. The V3 seems like a very intriguing amp. I'll be curious to see how you think it stacks up against the Riveras, as I've got two of those myself.

From what I am hearing on the Carvin board, is that the EH power tubes are the only thing that sucks, alot are coming in bad. You may want to go with your favorite PT`s if the new ones come in bunk. I have heard some clips, and it can sound recto, but more EL34 Recto, but alas it can take 6L6`s!! Jack.
