    Lovepedal 1/2 watt amps.

Well my amps arrived a few days ago and I was finally able to put them to the test. I bought the vintage to go with my Nash Esquire with custom wound O.C. Duff p-up and the Cannibal for my custom Charvel T-style with Duncan Distortion in the bridge. I used Analysis Plus Yellow Oval guitar cable and Analysis Plus spaker cable. The cabinet is a custom double depth cab, front ported with a Celestion Century, original version.

Both pedals are suprisingly loud! There is enough power to start to push your speaker(s) and let your neighbours know that you are home if you live in a condo.

The Cannibal has been compared to the Van Halen III tone. Well, maybe the darkness of the sound suggests that. It has lots of gain and warmth. With a new MXR 6 band EQ added, I am in lust. It sounds just like a JCM 800 with an 80's Boss DS-1, or SD-1 pushing it as heard though a good mid-fi stereo system. It is a classic Judas Priest to mid 80's LA tone. All I need is a bottle of Auquanet and some eye-liner. My 5 watt handmade tube amp is way too loud at home, here in Japan. It needs to be cranked to give up the goods. I can still use this Lovepedal amp at 3/4 volume and be comfortable that I am not bothering my neighbours. At full volume at night, I am not that selfish. Old Japanese houses have thin walls.

The Vintage was the big suprise. I bought it for the cleans. Well, as another poster wrote, there isn't much headroom. But it sounds stupidly good. It is tweed-like and it is 18-watt like at the same time. Riffs like Page's classsic 'Communication Breakdown' and Black Crows type tones ooze from this box, as heard though a good mid-fi stereo system. It is very open and articulate sounding. The MXR EQ makes it even more alive.

Both are very, very tube like. I hate modeling amps. These sound superb with no artifacts or bizarre colouration. I will never use my Pandora or V-amp again. I am looking forward to plugging an Xotic BB Pre-amp into the Lovepedals. These 1/2 watt amps make me smile.

checking there site out now after hearing the abovehave to say yet again the soundclip on the front page is typical for these type of companies! They might be great amp makers but they dont know any decent musicians who can deliver a (PRO)sounding clip to impress the general public
looks a cool unit-can you post some clips of your amps mate?
      thank you

David Torn recorded the clips for the Cannibal. His style is unconventional, but he's a pro with a list of credits 5 miles long, and he sure knows his recording techniques.

                  Re: Lovepedal 1/2 watt amps

I agree that the clips on the site were not the best for demonstrating the tone of the amps. David Torn was an 'interesting choice'.

Sorry, I have no way to record clips either at the moment. I have Garage Band on my computer, but have yet to find the time to open the programme and learn how to use it. (I am also mic-less).

I took the amps to my local vintage/ pro shop. We used a custom shop closet classic tele, with a Krank 4x12". The volume was perfect for at home through this set up. I cannot say the same for my 1x12" cab with the Celestion Century, which was shockingly loud for my expectations.

The 'Vintage' sounded more 18 watt-like through this set up, than a tweed/ 18 watt hybrid as stated previously with different associated gear. The harmonic overtones were remarkably impressive for a tiny transistorised amp.

The 'Cannibal' was not a good match tone wise for this cabinet. It sounded like a powered pedal for teens. The sound was a little like a JMP that is not being pushed enough to give up the goods. It is voiced dark; a little too dark, IMO. It is very picky about it's cabinet match.

But to be fair, I spent years playing next to the drummer and after an illness, I did lose a more than negligible amount of low bass and a regrettable amount of treble frequencies in my right ear.

If I had to make a choice, I would buy the Vintage and use an EQ pedal.

The price has gone back up to $150.00 ea. I still believe that the 'Vintage' is a bargain.

They sounded so good, that in a shop full of Vintage Fenders from all eras, 70's Marshalls, a Mojave, a Bad Cat and a variety of plexi flavors, the manager asked me if he could buy both of mine.

As he had just finished giving me a great deal on a Victoria 20112, upgraded the speaker for a Red Fang, and also changed the speaker wire and tubes for the equivalent of $25.00, I left the amps with him.

Will I buy the amps again? If I had only 50+ heads, I would buy the 'Cannibal'. But as I have a handmade 5 watt head that sounds killer with a Vintage Boss Super OD, I will pass. The 'Vintage', I might buy again one day though I was disappointed that it didn't have any useable clean tone. That was the original reason for purchase. The Victoria takes care of that issue, yet the gain on the 'Vintage' is something very special...
