Lovepedal 1/2 watt amps.
Well my amps arrived a few days ago and I was finally able to put them to the test. I bought the vintage to go with my Nash Esquire with custom wound O.C. Duff p-up and the Cannibal for my custom Charvel T-style with Duncan Distortion in the bridge. I used Analysis Plus Yellow Oval guitar cable and Analysis Plus spaker cable. The cabinet is a custom double depth cab, front ported with a Celestion Century, original version.
Both pedals are suprisingly loud! There is enough power to start to push your speaker(s) and let your neighbours know that you are home if you live in a condo.
The Cannibal has been compared to the Van Halen III tone. Well, maybe the darkness of the sound suggests that. It has lots of gain and warmth. With a new MXR 6 band EQ added, I am in lust. It sounds just like a JCM 800 with an 80's Boss DS-1, or SD-1 pushing it as heard though a good mid-fi stereo system. It is a classic Judas Priest to mid 80's LA tone. All I need is a bottle of Auquanet and some eye-liner. My 5 watt handmade tube amp is way too loud at home, here in Japan. It needs to be cranked to give up the goods. I can still use this Lovepedal amp at 3/4 volume and be comfortable that I am not bothering my neighbours. At full volume at night, I am not that selfish. Old Japanese houses have thin walls.
The Vintage was the big suprise. I bought it for the cleans. Well, as another poster wrote, there isn't much headroom. But it sounds stupidly good. It is tweed-like and it is 18-watt like at the same time. Riffs like Page's classsic 'Communication Breakdown' and Black Crows type tones ooze from this box, as heard though a good mid-fi stereo system. It is very open and articulate sounding. The MXR EQ makes it even more alive.
Both are very, very tube like. I hate modeling amps. These sound superb with no artifacts or bizarre colouration. I will never use my Pandora or V-amp again. I am looking forward to plugging an Xotic BB Pre-amp into the Lovepedals. These 1/2 watt amps make me smile.
