• Amp Setting Questions

I have a Marshall. Is it realistic to expect all your guitars to sound good on one amp/eq/pedal setting? I have Les Pauls, strats, and a couple of Suhrs and GMWs, so it's a pretty wide mix of stuff. I am trying to find one amp setting that I can just leave alone, and just roll the volume and tone knobs accordingly for the tone and distortion that I want. I don't mind turning on/off the occasional stomp box for variety as well, I just want one setting.

Also, is it like a tube amp to sound great on a setting one day, and come back the next with the exact same gear and go, "Crap, that sounds horrible! What was I thinking?"

    Thanks in advance!

Nope, not realistic at all. Every guitar will sound different and you'll have to tweak each one to your desired sound.

    Yep, that's common.

You could try to get a good clean sound then add a boost to add sustain. Use the volume control on the guitar. As for as the amp sounding good one day and not the next that has more to do with the pickups than the amp. Passive pickups are subject weather changes from one day to another where active pickups are'nt.

i think it has more to do with your mind and ears than weather changes and pickups. after listenening to the same frequencies for so long your ears get "compressed" in that freq range. when you come back fresh and you hear what you had dailed in after a long time in front of that amp, it sounds different to You.

I normally keep the amp setting the same. I like the tonal difference from guitar/pickup to the next so its normally very usuable right off the bat. If I have to dick with my amp too much the pickup gets tossed

This is what I do also. I like the difference in tone I get.

Same here. Set the amp, leave it alone...

                  Re: Amp Setting Questions

try turning your treb and pres off and your mid and bass full on. then turn up really really loud, and adjust your gain vs. volume to creat the desired tone.

sounds crazy but it works real well. especially in full band situations.

I'd say any 'magic settings' won't work well for all amps. Might work well on yours, but not all. Call me Skeptical.

                      Re: Amp Setting Questions

i agree except that this is a marshall. and i've found these setting "typically" work very well on marshalls.

but always adjust everything to taste.
