• Orange Amps What can U Tell Me bout'em

What can anyone tell me about "Orange Amps" - Tube only - both heads and combos? I have recently read that someone at Guitar World stated that it was the "greatest amp in the world" - WOW ! (I wonder what he was paid to say that?) - Can anyone tell me about them? How do they compare to Marshalls or vox or Mesa's ? Are they any good? Which Models are the ones to watch for? Help !

They are a really good amp, i wouldnt say the greatest, but a great amp. They are all of a sudden making a comeback, they are a marshall type amp but they have there own unique voicing. The new rocketverbs can get you nice and heavy but still be clear and articulate, i wouldnt say as heavy as a rec or uber, but they can get heavy. You can check out more on these amps here. http://www.orange-amps.com/

I don't know if this means anything to you but I went to see Jimmy Eats World with my daughter and they had 2 guitarists. One played Mesa Rectifiers and the other played Orange heads through Bogner cabinets. The Orange heads blew the Rectifiers away. Very clear and articulate but still heavy.

This is actualy a great setup, the bad part is most sound guys do not put them through the PA right. The Rec has a great low end while the orange amps got great upper, the problem is more then likly most sound guys are still doing Left and right side on different amps. With this setup you shouldnt have to pan at all and you would get a wicked deep sound. Alot of bands are doing this combo, a mesa for the low end and either a marshall or orange etc.. for the top end. But unless you are a huge band and get a good sound guy it is wasted in a live situation.

orange amps are great. you get that hot rodded marshall sound. very hot, crispy, crunchy, and articulate. these amps are not for down tuning.

The AD30's are awesome, expecially the old ones.

You gotta crank them for gain though, but when you do. . .CRUNCH!

I prefer them to Marshalls, personally.

I like the cleans on the AD30s and stuff, and the Rockerverb we had was really cool but most Orange amps Ive seen people use are so loud and midrangey that I couldn't use them. But that Rockerverb was nice. I don't know how Matt Talbot got such a hi-gain sound from them.

Wow, Thanks for all the input! I looked these Orange amps up on Harmony-central and read all of the reviews...And I became a bit suspicious, because all of the reviews seemed to be "raves", and I thought that maybe the company planted them ! Does anyone know about the older versions of these amps? Which ones should I "stay away from" ? Thanks again - you guys never let me down ! ! !

I like the rocketverb 100's because you can switch between tubes, where the rocketverb 50 you can only have 6L6's i believe. I would assume the rocketverb you had was a 6l6 version since it wasnt so midrangy.

Nah the Rockerverb sounded great, its just when I've seen bands use them live (mainly the older ones) they are so loud and painful to listen to that theyre useless. I guess I wrote that kind of bad.

you got to be careful with the settings, there is plenty of top end to go around. great amps though. i'd like to see a side by side shootout with (i don't know which model) Orange and a Slo!

to me, and again i don't know which model this was, the Orange sounded like a marshall with a built-in front end boost.

Re: Orange Amps What can U Tell Me bout\'em

Friend of mine has a rockerverb 100, nice amp, but I can't get over those ugly ass controls. Sound wise I thought it hung with my dual racktifier, but wasn't as creamy/smooth to my ears. Not a bad amp at all, but I think SLOs and VHTs and an early (2 channel) rectifier are better choices for what I like to hear. They shit all over new marshalls.

I need to take my JSX over there sometime and see what they do against each other. Could be interesting!

Older ones are more vintage sounding... the rockerverb 100 my friend has is a high gain two channel amp.

A friend of mine also has a Rockerverb 100 Head. I dug it. Dark sounding but, still well defined.
