Re: should i sell my jcm800 for a vetta?

"It's so friggin good, I'm selling it!!!"

And the XT Pro is a backline to cover a few bases for a real preamp in someones rack, ahem... hehe...

Again, I've wrung out the Vetta, it's cool for what it is, but it isn't a winner for me, THAT is for sure.

To expand on Tims excellent post, you also have to make sure the Vetta is set on Full Power and that the output is set to stereo or mono depending on the cabinets. Also, when you choose effects you also have to put them in the right place. Just go into effects routing and put them where you would normally. Try no cabinet emulation. Personally, I went that route with my 4 x 12 Mesa 1/2 back but with my Randall 2 x 12 cabs I use a 4 x 12 Marshall loaded with Vin 30's for my sim. For the clean channels I use a mix of boutique cabs.

I wouldn't make a decision until after NAMM. Line 6 may unveil a Vetta III or a replacement. That would send the price of used Vettas down even lower.

Good point though they've said that there's a lot of unused power left in the Vetta architecture so my money would be on something like the pay-for-play XT upgrade packs showing up first.

A guy I knew back in '89 traded 2 50 Watt plexis + cash for a 200 watt Randall head covered in snake skin. Hopefully you won't make the same kind of decision and end up with a trashed piece of out-dated computer software in a big box, when the Marshall is still singing on someone elses stage.

Next time I play and get compliments from everybody on how great my sound is I will make sure to remember I am playing out of a soon to be out-dated computer software in a big box. I have a Soldano at home and I have had probably more amps than most guys ever even saw and I will tell you with 100% confidence... the Vetta ain't no soon to be out-dated software in a big box. If it was... I would have kicked it to the curb. I'm like that.

[/ QUOTE ]+1. I have a pod pro-> marshall 9200 -> ampeg 4x12. Ive played countless gigs with other bands with vhts, marshalls, mesas, all ive gotten is compliments. Half your tone is in the hands, anyways, and its alot easier to make a good amp sound like shit if you dont have a clue. That being said, I wouldnt trade. I would save $$ for it.
Its a complete catastrophe. But Im a professional, I can rise above it. LOL

Dude, are you out of your mind!?!?!?
You talking about getting rid of that 80's metal sound, which is a HIGHLY modifiable TUBE amp by the way, for an over-hyped solid state that does a whole number of things decently at best?
You would have to be crazy. Nothing beats the sound of a good tube head.

Vettas are cool units..for what they do ..they do pretty well..

but it's just not the same as the real thing they are emulating....close but no cigar!

Modeling amps WILL get better in the near future...that is inevitible..but they are not there yet..IMO

Mike Romeo looked pretty fed up with his...he spoke to John about it..you know Mike Romeo of Symphony X.

Solid State just don't PROJECT like a great tube amp does..they just don't...not yet anywhoo.

I'll answer for him... no. He is a tube snob. I have tube amps. Most of my amps are tube amps. Soldano's, Marshall's, Boogies... I have had them all. The VETTA ROCKS.
The only downside of the Vetta is the steep learning curve. Its NOT a plug and play amp.

Re: should i sell my jcm800 for a vetta?

I have played a Vetta. It's a great modeling amp. But it just isn't a tube amp. Now, for something to rock with at low volumes, barring using a Hotplate...then absolutely. But to get rid of that tone that you can get out of a JCM 800, I don't think that is the greatest decision. I mean I just sprung for an ENGL Powerball (Ihave a modded BLock 5150 as well), and have heard some clips of modded JCM's that I would love to have.
Now, the JCM 800 is not the most versatile amp, obviously. But it does what it does pretty well. On top of that, you have the 5150 to do other stuff.
I don't think it's a good idea.
However, I do wonder sometimes how a Vetta would sound slaved through a good tube poweramp.
Other than that, I don't this much of the solid state. I'm a tube guy. But if you NEED every tone in the world, and need it done alright, then maybe a modeling head is the way to go for you. But if you want a few particular sounds, and you want them done well...the only true answer is tube.
Just my 2 cents.
Also, just because I'm a newbie here doesn't mean I'm a newbie elsewhere. Also, look at the poll. They say "No" as well.
