Re: should i sell my jcm800 for a vetta?

I voted yes because I bought a vetta II a week ago and I have been using my other guitarists vetta at my house when we don't jam for a month and I am totally happy. It all depends what kind of tones you want though. I have never liked marshalls for death metal which is what my band plays, but I am sure if you play alot of more rock based music you might want to hold onto that marshall because I doubt the vetta can get the perfect marshall tone. Another thing to consider with the vetta is that it probobly has WAY better clean tones then any marhsall and is pretty much the most versatile head knows to man...

ok, thanks so far.

a question for the vetta users: is it actually possible to decently approximate sounds like nevermore-this godless endeavor, exodus-tempo of the damned (my marshall nails that one, but only at ear splitting volumes), iced earth - something wicked this way comes, metallica black album, testament - the gathering, pantera, ozzy etc? most of the other sounds i like can be done using the 5150, so that's bascially what i'd want the vetta to do. low to moderate volume, btw. as i said i don't plan to bring it on stage.
because if the vetta can't do this, i don't need one

I should also mention that with the vetta you never have to worry about your amp blowing a tube at a gig and fucking up your set...and you have the 5150 still so you have that all tube tone and I think they kill marshalls anyway.

Yes to all of the above. It is equally good at home at whisper quiet levels, on the stage and in the studio.
Just find out what amps those bands use, dial them up.. pick out a cabinet and tweak the levels.
To give you an idea of the power..
My Vetta HD on full power with the master volume on 2 is loud enough to play a large gig with. I keep it on 1/2 power at home. This way I can turn the master volume up around 2 for a nice home jamming level.

I voted yes.

I've never been into boutique amps nor do I have ears that can perceive sounds otherwise audible only to dogs so it'll come as no surprise that after acquiring my first Vetta I sold my tube Marshall (Jubilee), Fender & Mesa amps and couldn't be happier with my decision.

The Vetta's tone may not be dead-on but in many cases it's close or very close to that of the amps being modeled. Any small deficiencies are more than made up for by the insane versatility the Vetta provides.

I have the Vetta II and I must say that for heavier tones this thing kills. I think if it lackes anything it would be for more mid gain based tones. Then again I have yet to make some patches for more moderate gain tones, however from fucking around on it for a few days I would say the strenghts in this amp are the clean tones and the high gain tones and lead tones. Either way I would still take it over a Marshall anyday

Re: should i sell my jcm800 for a vetta?

Hey YETANYOTHERONE I have tried alot of boutique amps that seemed to lack something that the vetta has. I played a few Deizel heads at a resent music expo and they totally sucked. For $5000 I would never buy one of those. I wouldn't even pay 500 for one of those amps. So sometimes the name can mean more to the amp then the actual tone. Sure the Vetta has no tubes, but it still sounds way tighter then many all tube heads I have played. So once again it all boils down to taste...

Re: should i sell my jcm800 for a vetta?

Once you try a Vetta with stereo cabinets you get an entirely new opinion of it. Amazing. So many features.
You can route the amp models right or left or both. Same thing with the effects. When you line out to the board you have several mic choices both on and off axis. Set the effect spread to wide and its hard to convey how cool it sounds. I have built around 20 patches so far. Most of them are based around the Marshall Silver Jubilee using cabinet emulation for a 4 x 12 with Vin 30's. For solo's I stack a Soldano SLO100 on top of it. For articulate rhythm I stack a Matchless Cheftain. I have one patch for Photograph by Def Leppard that has both a JCM900 clean channel and a JC800 distorted blended together for the chorus parts of the song. The clean is coming out of my left cab and the distorted is coming out of the right. It sounds like 2 guitar players playing. I also added the double tracker to it to make it sound more like 2 different guitar players.
I sure am having fun.
There is something on the Vetta that sucks pretty bad though. The wah. Its useable but pretty aweful.
The factory clean patches are outstanding. Especially Trademark Clean. I also really like the Satch's Alien patch for noodling at home and for a solo guitar solo live.
Another cool factory patch is one that allows you to control a killer clean patch and a killer solo patch with the expression pedal. Heel down and your clean. As you step into it the gain patch comes on and continues to increase as you step further down while at the same time the clean channel diminishes. Its a very cool patch.

Hey man, why don't you buy a pod xt live and stick it in the power section of your amps? Best of both worlds and a nice back up too.

mh....i have the original pod 2.0, and it pretty much sucks. it's either harsh or way too dark. surely a fun toy for quickly recording riff and song ideas, but that's about it.
the vetta peaked my interest because of the possibility of running two amps at the same time. sounds like a fun feature that opens up a lot of sonic ground.

I agree about the pod 2.0 in an amp situation but the XTL is totally a different thing for this matter!

he wan't 2 tones at once, only the vetta and duoverb can do that. the XTL only does one at a time.

I voted no just for value reasons. If you can afford to buy the Vetta without selling the Marshall first, I'd say go that route. Play with it for a while and if it delivers what you need then sell the Marshall.
