Re: should i sell my jcm800 for a vetta?

Why sell an irreplacable piece of equipment to get a mundane piece of equipment that will likely be traded off eventually, and then you're out a classic amp.

You can get Vettas all day long. That Marshall is not an easy one to replace at all.

Re: should i sell my jcm800 for a vetta?

"I voted no just for value reasons. If you can afford to buy the Vetta without selling the Marshall first, I'd say go that route. Play with it for a while and if it delivers what you need then sell the Marshall. "
that's what i wanted to do anyways....no way i sell the marshall just "in case" i like the vetta (or any other amp for that matter) better

mh...basically, it can be narrowed down to either buying the vetta, or continuing the amp journey....but well, i have quite an excessive want to buy/want to own list...here it is:
-engl savage 120/fireball
-dual recto 2 ch *
-mark III/IV *
-peavey jsx
-framus cobra *
-vht UL
that's basically everything i've been GASing for at one point or the other (these marked with a * are right on top of my WTB list)...heads only. as for rack stuff, add the MP1 to that list. i mean, looking at the amps i've already owned (and sold) i am about halfway through right now

Sorry John, but there are tons of JCM 800's out there. They are really not that hard to come by. The difference is that over time the Marshall will increase in value while the Vetta will decrease. But neither's price is going to go so nuts that I'd make a decision based on expected future value.

A modeller can't give you the same feel, the extra 5% makes a world of difference.

It's like the difference between listening to Mozart's Jupiter Symphony through a state-of-the-art, superexpensive soundsystem or hearing the actual symphony in real life, being played by the orchestra itself right there. The real life thing will be better. Albeit only for the subtle nuances, but it's the small things that count most in life, right.
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

Re: should i sell my jcm800 for a vetta?

i would go with a vetta myself.
i've been thru about 10 amps and finally got a vetta.
it has satisfied my need for tones and i've stopped buying new amps.
it gives me every tone that i'll ever need, comes with a ton of effects (the wah does suck), it's cheap to use, no tubes to replace, and it sounds great.

alot of people complain about the feel of the amp. it doesn;t bother me. some people do put a tube buffer between the guitar/amp to get a better feel.

check out ion for more vetta info.

Re: should i sell my jcm800 for a vetta?

I notice the difference in tone between the Vetta and the real thing but thats only when I am side by side comparing the Vetta model to the actual amp. Its minimal.
Regarding players feel... the Vetta and my Soldano feel the same to me when I am playing. Actually the Vetta is much more powerful.
Regarding feeling the sound... the Vetta pushes just as much air as my Soldano. You just have to make sure you use good cabinets with good speakers.
I also tried mic'ing my Vetta with an SM57 and using the line out SM57 Air II mic simulator built into the Vetta.
I can't tell the difference at all on or off axis. If there are sonic differences I certainly can't hear them.

Tim, there really aren't "lots" of good 800s out there really. Most have been trashed, repaired improperly, modded to death, whipped, and beaten. A clean one, and one you KNOW works, is harder to come by.

Most people are sorry they sold them.

I am sorry I sold my #2210. They appear on Ebay fairly regularly. Not as much as a Vetta but I wouldn't consider them super rare.
A Vetta will NOT replace a #2210 and visa versa.
Like I said.. I prefer my Soldano but I can tell you with 100% confidence that a properly dialed in Vetta REALLY sounds good. Its a great amp to own for the amp whore.
Actually.. its the ultimate amp for an amp whore.

I'm not sorry I sold any of the JCM 800's I've had over the years

My Splawn modded 1987x plexi kicks the crap out of any JCM 800 I've ever played through.

Public apology to all the clean unmodded OEM 800s I've sold and miss.

"I'm sorry I sold you, I was a fool, and want you back. Please come home!!"

If youhad a Splawn modded "real" Marshall, instead of the "Mattel" Wallmart version of a Marshall, you'd really be impressed. Hehe...

This battle could go on forever. Fragile why don't you go to a local guitar shop and test run a Vetta and see for yourself what its like?

he wan't 2 tones at once, only the vetta and duoverb can do that. the XTL only does one at a time.

The nice thing with the Vetta II is all the amp and cab models, plus all the built-in effects. The wah does suck though. I got tired of all the pedals, etc. so I sold my 5150 block letter and got the II. I'm very happy with it, and being able to mix the amp models and come up with your own custom sound is great. But definitely try and test one first. The Vetta is definitely a tweaker's paradise, so you have to have patience.

Keep in mind that the Vetta at the store has been "tweaked" by every kid that walked in the store. Most of the time they sound like canned ass. My buddy checked one out at the store and he ran out screaming it sounded so bad. He came over my house and heard mine and was blown away.
That is the 1 sucky thing about the Vetta. It is very difficult to appreciate it in a store. You need to read the manual (its huge), visit Vettaville or the Institute of Noise and learn how to use it. Only then will it start sounding good.

I voted no, but anything I would have said has been said already. The Vetta you can score anytime, but you can't just walk into any shop and buy an 800. I say save up and hold out, but also I noticed especially with Line 6 products it takes time to tweak it to get "your" tone, so you could spend time with it and decide you don't like it. Either way, good luck
