For some time, I've wanted a better practice amp than my Crate GX 15R. It sounded OK, but not totally to my liking.

I was out of work early today, so I thought I'd take a ride to guitar center to pick up some strings and try a few practice amps. My nature has an IMPULSIVE side to it... Sure enough, some 12 or 13 year old kid is shredding the daylights through a marshall micro stack!(One of the first one's I was going to try!) I couldn't believe how good it sounded, and he was using a low cost fender guitar(strat). His parents didnt exactly care for the $300 price tag and without a moment of hesitation, I told the salesman "That amp is MINE"! upon handing him my credit card [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Hard to believe such a thick, full sound can come from something so small! I was comparing the sounds of my new OS-2 pedal to my modded SD-1. The SD-1 gets the nod for sure. Clean channel sounds very nice especially backed by a chorus!

I played the damn thing for a LONG time! I feel like a kid at Christmas. [img]/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]

Anyone else use one of these? With luck, when bills are caught up, I'll probably buy big brother AVT150H and a 4X12. I love those.

Those little mini-cabs sound surprisingly good. I’ve picked up a few of them over the years from eBay. Tough little buggers too.

I have three. All of mine are from the older years (1987-1989). Supposedly ZZ Top's "Recycler" was recorded with one of these and a G12-100 in an open back cab.

My best sounding one is a 1987 Silver Jubilee. Great singing tone, fat and crunchy. Note that these first year models only had one output jack in the front, in 1989 they switched to two output jacks (headphones and line out). They sound different, not as "out of control".

I ripped the guts out of my "Vintage Plexi" styled one and I'm turning it into a low wattage JCM800 tube amp.

My last one is a bone stock Black one - I'm thinking of upgrading the speakers from G10D-25's to G10L-35's. This one sounds ok, but the Silver Jubilee has something "extra".

I haven't compared the old generation to the new, but I like the features that come with the new.

I've got one of the Lead 15 stacks from a few years back, which was before the MG series, or maybe it's an earlier MG version? [img]/images/graemlins/scratchhead.gif[/img] I had two, sold one here to Brad, my cousin was supposed to buy my other one but bailed and I finally got it back from him. It's really cool, but I may either sell it or have it gutted and tubes added.

I got one of these last year for X-mas. I was also blown away by the tone out of the little bugger. I play the snot out of this thing all the time at home.
Qiuck question, since there is no loop are you running the pedals right in front of the amp? I never got around to trying it cause it sounded so good as is.

I'm lazy with pedals - I usually just plug in and go. The only one I use (rarely) with this amp is a MT-2 Metal Zone in the front "Low" input and I set the amp for clean. To get reverb, I just crank it up and let the walls do the work.

The one thing this amp does not do well is a light tube breakup - AC/DC, early Def Leppard. That's why I'm tubing one. I actually have the tube circuit made in a Gorilla TC-35, but this one is only 3 watts - I want something a little bolder for this head.

Tube amp wise, I do have a DSL100 1/2 stack, but I like these little guys - just plug'n'go.

I am still un-decided if I want to keep my new pedal, Boss OS-2 or the SD-1(which seems a little too fuzzy to me no matter what I put it in front of)

It was the first time I pushed it a little today....had it to about 6 on the volume. Didn't sound too bad!

A good amp always made me feel better and want to play more. It's how I've always been [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
