Re: Need pick-up recommendations

I personally like hotrails too, but they are very hot and loud.
The thing I like about them is that they sound very fat and smooth, excellent for Sykes or Santana like leads.
I have two of them in one of my guitars (neck and middle) but I think I'll change the middle one for some vintage sounding single coil.

X2N/HS-3/Hotrails would be pretty good combination

with the X2N i'd go with the fast track 2 or 3. i have never liked the way duncan and dimarzio mix. duncans to me, seem "clearer" and dimarzio's seem more "compressed"....but that could just be my ears!!
GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

Never heard of a red lace sensor before either? Is it another brand or a pickup by duncan / dimarzio?

High ouput single coil it is. Hotrail, Fasttrack etc. all options.. just gotta check out wich one i like the most eh.

The Lace Sensor is made by Don Lace and was standard on the Fender Jeff Beck and the Clapton strats.
The Red Lace Sensor is the hottest of all the Lace models. It measures 14.2K and is very hot and completely silent.

Re: Need pick-up recommendations

A friend of mine says the hotrail pickup gets you a tone like it sounds like your tone knob is rolled down. He thinks the hotrailpickup sucks and find his dimarzio single coil superior. The hotrail sounds dull and muddy in his opinion.

What do you guys think about this statement?

I've played hotrails for like 2,5 years and i absolutely love them. :bang:

Re: Need pick-up recommendations

I like to roll the tone knob half way down when I use the neck hotrails, that way I can nail the Whitesnake's "Is This Love" lead tone wich is AWSOME.

Re: Need pick-up recommendations

Yeah EXACTLY. Imo the hotrail is very dynamic, especially when playing with the volume knob, gain settings etc. I think i'll go for the X2N - HS-3 - Hotrail combi, but i'm not sure about the HS-3 yet. Haven't heard much about this pickup going to do some research first

Re: Need pick-up recommendations

Do these higher-output singles still have a 'single-coil' tone or are they more like putting in a humbucker in a single-slot space? I really like my single-coil tone and I don't want to sacrifice it for high output.

Re: Need pick-up recommendations

I only have experience with Hotrails. The hotrails are sounding like a stacked humbucker and the glassy tone of a single coil is nowhere to find.
