  • Loudness--- Powerball vs. Fireball

i have a powerball and love it but its with my brother in Montana right now and i am missing it so very much. the powerball is 100 watts..and fireball is 60 .. im aware of this. But the other night i played jcm2000 60watt Tsl and well it was a big pussy piece of shit. my Friends 100 watt crate Solidstate was like 4 times louder...both of them had half stacks one was a matching crate and the marshall had that big dumb Mode 4 cab. ...what im affraid of is the fireball gonna be just as weak as the 60 watt marshall.. ..cause i had the fucker maxed..and well ..it sucked.. So can like the fireball stay head to head with a 5150...thanks...

Something must have been wrong with the TSL or the cab that you played. I am not a big fan of the new Marshall JCM's but I will say they are LOUD. Much louder than a 100W SS Crate amp. Unless you play your amps at FULL VOLUME, you will notice very little difference in volume between a 60w and a 100w tube amp.
    I had a 22w Mesa Studio 22 and when I hooked it into a 4 x 12 I could knock friggin walls down.
I also owned a Soldano 16w Astroverb head that also was extremely loud at full volume.

john, it's obvious why he thought the tsl was a piece of crap: he's surely NOT a marshall fan, cause he likes the ENGL sound.
i only have experience with the tsl100 head, and i'll say it again, it's an amazing amp, loud as fuck, with a kickass crunch channel that has all your metal needs covered, except death metal. actually the lead channel is likely the weakest part of the amp, maybe that's why most people tend to dislike the tsl. same goes for the dsl, the hi lead mode isn't halfway as good as the low lead mode, but then again most players don't need more gain than that.

sorry for the rant. i just happen to like the new marshalls.

ok, to finally get on topic: fireball vs 5150? if it's anything like it's big brother (powerball) it won't even hold a candle against the 5150. the 5150 is one loud mofo, not as loud as the blackmore we both used to own, but it sure kicks the powerball out of the water, especially in a live mix. for bedroom playing and the occasional jam with a drummer it will be fine though....imho!
