• Yet Another G-Major Effects Loop question

For those of you that run rack effects units through your effects loop do you disengage your effects loop or change your patch if you don't want effects on? Just curitous when looking at the G-Major and all the good words about it.

With it's relay switching it looks like you can control two items. On my XXX I have three things the foot controller controls, clean, ultra/crunch, effects. If I had the G-Major hooked up I was thinking I could use the relay to switch between clean and the ultra/crunch modes leaving the effects loop always engaged.

I leave my effects loop always on, so there aren't any volume jumps

As far as the channel switching, yes, that sounds like a good idea to me.

+1. Me too. Disengaging the effects loop will cause a volume jump.
If you want to completely bypass the G-Major just set up a pedal on your midi controller to switch it to bypass. I just set up different patches with no effects.

I *always* have the gate on, so it's always in. However, what JG said will work just fine...
Division - American Metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on Facebook.

Michael is right. If you bypass the G-major you bypass the gate. Also, unless you have the level control set perfectly you will get a volume jump or sag.
I never bypass the loop. Its on all the time. I use the G-major to channel switch only. Some patches have no effects but they all have the gate on.

Re: Yet Another G-Major Effects Loop question

From what I understand you can use the G-Major to control three channels. Here is what TCElectronics.com has to say:

-----------------------------------------------------------

Based on the Ultra Plus Cable Schematic

The directions we suggest are :

tip to pin 5

ring to pin 7

sleeve (ground) to pins 2, 4 and 3

If you look on the solder side of the Din Plug, the pins are from the top right and clockwise : 6, 1, 4, 2, 5, 3, 7

result of channel switching will be :

Relay 1 open and relay 2 open = ultra crunch

Relay 1 open and relay 2 closed = crunch

Relay 1 closed and relay 2 open = lead clean

relay 1 closed and relay 2 closed = ???
Damn, I love this Interweb.

Re: Yet Another G-Major Effects Loop question

Thanks everyone. Good tips by all. I haven't decided what I am going to do yet but at least I know what I'll do with the loop if I decide to go that route, always on.

Please let me know how it works out if you do. I'm looking for a set up that allows me to use the three XXX ch's + effects with on click.

I wonder if you can change amp ch's with the Rocktron Expression?
