Amp types

I'm not much of an amp connisseur, so this what I'm looking at. I ususally gig out at bars/clubs. There are two other guitarists, one uses a JCM 800, the other a Marshall MG100-DFX. Currently I own a Marshall JCM 2000 Series, DSL100, I also have a Fender Cyber Deluxe, which I use out on town. The Marshall is just too big and bulky to carry around all the time.

The problem with the Fender is, there is just too much shit on it. [img]/images/graemlins/scratchhead.gif[/img] I'm looking for something simple, that is about the size a Cyber Deluxe, so it'll be easy to tote around whenever I play, but has good sound.

The Marshall would be nice, but like I said, too bulky to carry around for my purpose, so it'll probably become my new music room coffee stand.

I was looking around at other amps, and some of the ones that interest me are the Mesa Boogie amps. The F-series, F-30, F-50 or the Mark series.

I just want to be able to run a couple of pedals straight to the amp, maybe a tube screamer, flange and a chorus. Just keep it simple. As for other amps, like I said, it's not my strong point, so I really don't know anything else comparable.

I would like to use the Cyber Deluxe, since its the one I'm use to, but can't ever keep the sounds consistent. [img]/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img] Any input on the Mesa's, the Cyber Deluxe itself or something else would be appreciated.

Stay away from a Mesa Mark series if you want a simple amp. They are REALLY far from simple.
I think you should stick with your DSL and get a 1 x 12 or a 2 x 12 cab for it.
Marshall also makes JCM 1 x 12 combo's.
Carvin has the old X112 and the X60
Fender makes a bunch of really nice tube 1 x 12 combo's.
Crate VC50
Look at the Peavey Ultra's
Hughes and Kettner makes a few nice 1 x 12 combo's and so does Randall. Actually, Randall makes really nice stuff that is bullet proof, sounds good and simple to set up.

I do like the Fenders and my first choice would be to figure this Cyber Deluxe out, but I've been trying that for several years, almost to the point of looking elsewhere.

If the Mesa Mark series are as frustrating as the Cyber Deluxe, then I'll be sure to cross it off my list.

The Mesa Mark series has active interactiv controls. Most of them are extremely difficult to dial in and the slightest movement of the controls can turn your sound into canned ass. With that said.. they are GREAT amps.
You should figure out how to use your Cyber Deluxe. It can't possibly be that difficult. As long as your not looking for extreme metal tones, the Cyber Deluxe is a pretty sweet amp. Especially for Fender based tones.

The Mesa F-Series are great amps! I've had an F-30 combo for a couple years now, really dig it, but it's on ebay at the moment because I don't play it enough with all the other gear that I have. I mostly play at home, so it's pretty much overkill for my needs when I've also got a Boss GT8, Carvin DCM150 power amp, Crate PowerBlock, Marshall Valvestate 2x12 and a THD Univalve head, plus a 1x12, a pair of vertical 2x12s and 4x12 cab.

That might be an option for right now that I never thought of. Getting a 2x12 cab and putting it down the basement where we practice, would allow me to take away the Cyber Deluxe, bring it home and try to figure it out. Trying to figure it out in the middle of band practice dooesn't work , though it would probably be the best place because I can get in sync with the other amps that are being played.

I've noticed for a while you had the F-30 up for sale, I almost jumped, but as I said earlier, I still like the Cyber Deluxe and would rather figure it out first before jumping to another amp. Frustration is starting to bug me with the amp, which is making me look at other options.

Yeah, I've played one of the Cybers that a friend of my cousin owned a year or so ago. It was a cool amp, but I just couldn't get enough gain out of it for heavier stuff, at least in the limited time I was using it. With a pedal, it does really well, but I don't really care for using pedals all that much any more and would rather just rely on the amp's gain. I say dig into it a little more and figure it all out to see if it can truly do what you want before you part with it.

What style of music are you playing, and how much power do you need? There are several Peavey Classic combos that could probably meet your needs.

Basically. we're in bars, outside shows (in the summer of course [img]/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]). The style of music we play is basically covers you hear in a bar, like .38 Special, Eddie Money, Tommy Tutone [img]/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img], so we usually play anything from Sheryl Crow to Ozzy. So, doesn't have to be overly loud, but loud enough (3 guitarists).

Yeah, I agree with you Joe, but JG brought up a good point about the 2x12 cab. Instead of using my JCM 2000 as a coaster, I can downsize it to make it manageable to tote around with me. In the meantime, it frees up the Cyber Deluxe to come back home with me for the reason you said.

Well whatever you decide on, make sure there is a Jackson plugged into it!!
