Re: DIEZEL thread: VH4 vs. Herbert

wow, Thanks alot OZZ, and I agree, PB sounds more like a solid-state amp.

Looks like Herbert is the thing wich I exactly need. A great gigging amp, great sounding and very versatile. And it is MIDI controllable, I can make tons of settings and just switch between them with foot-controller.
I need it because when playing in smaller venues where there is no point bringing along many amps with A/B boxes or amp switchers and all that shit, Herbert will do the job alone.

I mean I love Boogies, but DR's clean and lead sounds aren't exactly the things I need so I have to bring let's say some Mark series Boogie along. Pain in the ass.
Diezel is gona be the main gigging amp, Mesas are going to be the recording and huge arena amps.

Hey Wizard of Ozz... any experience with the build quality/construction of the Savage 120 and the Special Edition heads?

As far as sound goes, the best ENGL I've tried is the Fireball head, and next to that, the Blackmore head (haven't tried the savage.) Didn't know about the construction issues the wizard is talking about here though.

But anyway, my holy grail amp is a Diezel Herbert regardless of brand/price. Enough said

The Savage is just like the Powerball. All the same shortcuts/flaws I described above apply. I've haven't seen the insides of the the Special Edition (SE)... but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Just look at the cheap preamp tube shields Engl uses. It's a single small square piece of metal that's bent to only partially cover a preamp tube. WTF?!?! Couldn't they flip for the standard metal can-type preamp tube shields most companies like Marshall, Soldano, etc. use? I've heard of trying to cut costs, but that is flat out ridiculous.

Even the red light bulbs they install in these amps to lightup (illuminate the logo) while on, loose their red color after a while. Cheapo quality inside and out.
