• Krank Amps

Hey there,
Is anyone familiar with these amps? Nevermore's tone drew me to them...and then I found out some other rockin' bands used Krank amps, too. 100watt head, 4 5881 tubes, 4 12ax7 tubes...apparently some crushing tones, too. If anyone has some input or opinions, let me know...thanks a lot.

Regards,
Nick

I played 3 of them at NAMM. I wasn't impressed. Very buzzy.

Re: Krank Amps

Here is my uninformed opinion of Krank amps based on hearsay and unqualified bias'd comments.

If you try a Krank amp in the store or you buy one you are probably going to get a crummy sounding amp.
If you are an endorsed artist and you get your amp directly from Krank, your amp is going to sound pretty darn good.

I saw Jeff Loomis live with his and he didn't sound good. Guess Andy Sneap was off that night, haha...

I am just basing my comment on what I read. Most people claim that when they hear a Krank amp live from an endorsed Krank musician it sounds great. Most people who try one in the store say they sound like canned ass.

Re: Krank Amps

It depends on which tone you're after. Dead Heart In a Dead World and Enemies of Reality was recorded with rectifiers.

this godless endeavor wasn't all krank, either. it's a '94 dual recto mixed with a krank revolution, both boosted by a maxon od-820

94 dual Racktifier, to be exact .

To tell the difference between the two, listen to the title track off This Godless Endeavour, when the left guitar (Jeff), plays the first 2 or 3 measures of the verse riff (sitting here sideways, on a cold stone floor part) alone. That cardboard, 5150'ish sound is the Krank.

Re: Krank Amps

Jeff's solos came across "OK" live.. I've seen him live with about five different rigs or so thru the years..

His rythm tone was complete mush with the Krank...he sounded MUCH better with his Recto...and I don't like Rectos, but love Jeff.

I told him to get an Uber!!!

I think that the Krank's I've heard, they don't sound good.
