Firstly...Big thanx to John a.k.a Dreamland rebel!
Crap did I feel funny playing a show with something I have only had for less than 24 hrs...
I run it into my XXX loops return.
One thing I'll say right now is...(As John told me) You need to tweak this at the volume you will be playing at and you still want to be ready to do some tweaking during sound check and between songs. So, get familiar with tweaking this without the editor as much as you can.
Also make a few banks of patches incase one doesn’t even come close to giving you what you want. Like my Uber bank!
It sounded so good at home when I cranked it but, it then comes down to environment and my house is nothing like the hardwood floor venue I played last night. haha!
The uber setting sounded like a low sonic hum, so went to my "Insane" bank, set up with a rhy, lead and clean patch. I had it sounding like a 5150 by bringing up the low mids and cutting down the mid highs a bit with the post eq. Gave it a real throaty sound that cut through much better. Still I had to do a little volume and eqing right there.
I got this to get me through all the gigs we are doing till I get my mini rack together and as a back up for when it's done. Also for it's recording and home practicing. I figured it's just too useful to not have it right now.
I would still prefer my XXX tone but I have come to the realization that I need a matching cab (Listened to one and it sounds so much better with the amp)a high end rack processor like a G Major (That can switch amp ch's) a power conditioner as well as a midi controller. That’s gunna take time so I hope this will do.
I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it is to create patches and assign them with the editor and tone port. Great software and I also like the fact that Line 6 tends to allow up grades to their hardware. I hope they have some pitch processing and acoustic sims in the future.
Also this unit is much heavier and sturdy than it looks. It is very well built.
I am surprised that the high gain amp models are not as high gain as I would expect. I find myself using gain boosters for every patch. Anyone else find this. And I don't run my gain full out on my amps usually. I find the :EQ+Boost sim to help out with this though. The "Screamer" for my lead boost.
At the end of the night all the guitar players came right up with compliments so I take it as a good thing. I missed the target and switched to the wrong chan once but, all in all it was pretty good for gear I haven't been with for more than a day.
