Guitar cable from head to cab? solid state.

My friend has a Solid State Bass head.
Should he use a Speaker cable from his head to his cab.
He is using a guitar cable right now.
I told him I'd find out for him. I use a speaker cable for my Jcm800. I don't know if it matters with a solid state.

It's always a much better idea to use a speaker cable.

Never use a guitar cable. You could potentially f*ck your equipment up. Always use a speaker cable

+1 speaker cable. they call them speaker cables for a reason. speaker cables allow more signal to flow through them, but alot of times a low power solid state head wont hurt itself from using a guitar cable. my friend hooked up his Line 6 spyder 2 head with guitar cables for a long time and never did any damage.

Guitar cables are only for guitar and effects. Speaker cables are for hooking your amp head up to a speaker cabinet.

yeah, definitely go for speaker cables, it's much safer that way.
on the other hand, my other guitar player has been using patch cables to connect the speakers for AGES, no problems so far - although i told him chances are there will eventually be problems

It may work, but I wouldn't use a guitar cable long term. Guitar cables usually have fairly thin gauge wire compared to speaker cables which have thicker wire. Thin wire can choke the amp and cause heat, which can lead to other problems. Compare it to using a garden hose as a fire hose. It would work, but not as effectively.

Ignore the shop assistants who'll try to tell you that speaker cables and guitar cables are the same thing [img]/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]

NEVER EVER use an instrument cable as a speaker cable.

Speaker cables aren't sheilded. If you use a speaker cable as an instrument cable your guitar will humm and buzz louder than the sound coming from it.
