• I'm just about done with modeling.... RANT.....

I'm really pissed. Like smash the fuggin wall pissed.
I have a POD 2.0
It won't save anymore so I find out I need to replace the internal battery. No sweat.. right? WRONG.
Its a standard computer type lithium battery but it's RIVETED TO TABS ON THE BOARD!!! So.... I break it loose and go to install the new battery. I have to solder the new one in to the existing tabs. While I am soldering it in, I lift the soldering iron up and a glob of solder falls off of the tip of the iron and lands directly on the circuit board on top of several tiny surface mount resistors and caps. I tried to clean the solder off the best I could with a solder sucker and braid. I did a fine job. The POD works but it has a static and fuzz sound to all the patches. Basically, the POD is shot.
I just bought a Longboard for it, a case for the POD and I have the mic stand bracket and everything.
Its all up on Ebay as we speak. The only modeler I am keeping is the Vetta and I am only keeping it until I can save up enough money to sell it and buy a Soldano SLO although I might consider a modded 2203/4.
Goodbye modeling.. FOREVER. Things like this REALLY GET ME TICKED off.
I don't need tons of sounds anymore. A few good ones are enough.
Within the next 3 months my amps will consist of:
Carvin X60 1 x 12 combo ALL TUBES
Soldano SP77 based rack system ALL TUBES
Soldano SLO100 ALL TUBES
and if Pete is going to start building those 18w Marshall clones I will have one of those too.
Line 6 sucks. Why couldn't they install a battery holder like PC's have had for years instead of riveting the battery to the board when it has a life span of 5-10 years.
Fuck you Line 6.

Just wait till you have to replace the tube emulator in your SLO... Talk about hard to do... Hehe..

So who was closest when we were guessing how long it would be til John sold his Vetta?

I am no longer playing through any amp that has surface mount technology or internal batteries.
My Carvin X60 with a TS9DX Tube Screamer in front of it is killer sound with virtually no tweaking. The only thing I need to worry about is replacing a 9v battery.
I was jamming to SRV and it was sounding REALLY good.

HA!

That TS9DX is a sweet pedal dude.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

At the end of last year I mentioned that I would have an SLO100 this year. The Vetta is going to help me towards it.
I won't have enough money saved for 3-6 months but that is my plan for now.
The Vetta rips btw.. I just don't use it. Anybody that tells you the Vetta doesn't sound great is full of shit or doesn't know how to use one. I use my Soldano live because its the best sound I have ever heard. I attribute my great Soldano tone to many of the JCF bro's who helped me build my rig from the ground up. I took advice and it payed off.
This isn't a Vetta bash. The Vetta is great. This is a Line 6 bash. They fukked me with their internal riveted battery and thats all it takes with me. I have a short fuse. Maybe its the Creatine.

So being a sloppy tech makes a modellers suck if I take a sluge hammer to my J-Station and smash it to pieces does that mean that all modellers suck?

I'm not a fan of mdellers but they are a cool tool for practice and scratch tracks when recording late at night..

Yes Shawn. Thats exactly right. Line 6 sucks because I got sloppy soldering. You nailed it bro.

don't worry john will be back to the modeling dark side in the future.
i use to do the same thing, buy/sell amps, going back between modelling and tube.
in the end, i'm still using my vetta.
plus john's an amp whore, so he'll have some type of modelling amp...lol

It really sucks that they have an internal battery with a finite shelf life but they don't put it in a battery holder like computers have. I guess they figure 5-7 years is long enough to have a working POD. I checked with a few repair places and they all say the same thing. It would cost more to fix it then to just buy another used one.

Planned obsolescence. They obviously figured that there'd be no way anyone wouldn't want their forthcoming newer and better product before the battery died.

Besides, those battery holders are expensive! They probably saved a nickel apiece doing it this way. This sort of thing happens all too often when engineers get MBAs, "Hey! I think we could sell like 500,000 of these so if we save $0.05 on each one that's another $25,000 the company can pay me! Hell yeah!"

I had to change the batt in my V-Amp 2 and it was in a plastic batt clip. Was 5 mins in and out with no soldering.
