[quoteI guess they figure 5-7 years is long enough to have a working POD.

That is FAR too long to have POD by any means...

They'll all eventually be junk like the AD MP-1s (and countless other things like my Voodu) when the proprietary processor poops and it's ten years down the road and they don't even make anything like that anymore....

I've moved on to another kind of modelling. For years I've used Line 6, but I'm finally and totally done with using em live. I found the Randall MTS line and am honestly 110% content with my tone, which I've never been with any other of my setups. Honestly though, I might grab something to record with quickly from Line 6, one of their new recording interfaces, but there are others out there. Might spring for an MBox instead

Its not modeling that I am sick of. Its the design of the internal battery that is difficult to remove. They weren't looking out for the consumer and that pisses me off. Things like that rub me the wrong way. I had a Volkswagon once and was told that 1 quart of oil consumption every 3000 miles was acceptable to Volkswagon. I drive a Nissan now.

The JStation was a great little modeler. Too bad they don't make them any more. I gave mine to my nephew and have regretted it ever since.

John, I'm sorry to hear this bro. You should really write a letter to Line 6. This is the kind of stuff they need to hear, and I would think that they don't want to see it all over the internet.

Does anyone know how they do it in the XT, XTLive or Pro? Maybe they already changed that 'feature'.

LOL! I go through a quart a litttle more than every 1,000 miles in my 1997 Saturn. It does have 175K on it, runs like a top and gets about 34mpg, so I don't complain.

I have a POD 2.0 as well. Was it the save-settings feature the only thing that's messed up before the solder spill? Just wondering what to expect. For all I know, the battery might be dead in mine right now.

Yes, I would program all of my patches in and the the next day the POD would default back to the factory settings. It took a day or 2 for it to lose its memory because the 3v lithium battery that was in mine still had 1.5v left in it.
If the battery dies completely you will no longer be able to save. I should have NEVER opened the darn thing up. I am so pissed about it. I actually liked that little red bean. Now I HATE IT.

Ok. I haven't even played mine but once to sample all of the defaults, so I'm a long way off before I start saving anything.

The exact same thing happened to me last summer with my Flextone II plus.Would hold my settings for a day then go back to all default. Line 6 sent me a new battery and luckily a buddy of mine who is a guitarist is also an electronics guy who replaced it for me. Once I saw how this thing is set up traded it towards my B-52 combo.
Good riddance!
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

For me, when a manufacturer skimps on a penny item and builds planned obsolesence into a product it pisses me off. This internal battery thing is exactly that.

Re: I\'m just about done with modeling.... RANT.....

I'm really sorry to read this. You've been a big inspiration to me in getting more involved with modeling amps. In fact, I just bought a Vetta (haven't received it yet)!

I do understand your frustration, though. I feel the same way about my iPod, which has a battery that inevitably died and is not supposed to be end-user-replaceable - and after public controversy and Apple's agreement to replace faulty iPod batteries (for $60), it looks like the new iPods are made the same way! My wife's Palm also has a non-user-replaceable internal battery that will eventually die, and makes it another example of planned obsolescence.

OTOH, if some internal component in my tube amp died, I'd either send it back to the manufacturer for repair or replace it, too, since I can't fix it myself, and I don't know of anyone locally who could, either. I guess I'm saved by my ignorance. It is a handy justification to buy more gear, though!
