  • Yellow Jackets in a JCM 800?

JCM 800 combos are still only around $700 here in Japan, so I am thinking that another amp can't hurt. But, the volume would be impossible.

Will THD 'Yellow Jackets' make the Marshall sound too Vox-like?

If not, which combo should I look out for, as I am wanting a single channel model that does early to mid 80's metal with an old Boss Super Overdrive?

I dunno about them in specific amp that you have but I've used them in a 2203 JCM 800 head for a while. I pulled the four 6550's and put in 2 YJ's with EL-84's so it went from 100w down to around 20w. The amp did take on some different characteristics and chime but not voxy. I had to certainly change my EQ settings. It tamed it for sure but its still pretty loud. A better solution albeit more expensive would be to attenuate with a Weber MASS or THD Hot plate.
