• XTLive vs ADA MP-1

Ok, now that I've had my XT Live for a while I'm getting to like it - playing along with Sabbath and Iron Maiden, I get closer to their sound than I've been able to with the ADA and Digitech TSR-12 combo I've been using for years.

Of course the JCM800 model is the only one getting any use

Not too fond of the XTL's cleans - gotta crank them to be heard and then they clip out.

Cool. Those PODs / V-Amps / J-Stations / ________s work great for jamming on, especially late at night! I probably never would've been able to play guitar in college with any sort of distortion if I didn't have a POD2.0.

Newc - use the compressor to add volume on the clean tones, works great.

Tried that, I still get clipping.

Yeah I found that with the cleans too but, now that I found that my high gain patches are best at about 50% (rhy) volume and then about 10% more for lead. now I have more room for the clean volume.

Running the patches ch volume lower like that also improved the overall tone and corrected any feedback issues I had. Now I don't need to run an external noise gate. I also found running the post eq and comp (Not the "Stomp" comp) on my high gain patches to only good for going through my CPU. I suppose it would be good through a PA too, but straight into a power amp for live playing only gave me signal problems.

Hmm, went back and used the "other" compressor (small button under the display - I had been using the blue stomp and the Vetta Juicer thing) and it does seem to be a bit better. Still not as loud as I can get with the ADA, though.
