Re: Affordable Tube Amp

I bought the last two I owned for $450 each used and lost money trading them off (dumb move BTW, haha). Not sure what the market is bearing now tho.

Your not going to find a 5150 for $400.00

LOL! I was wondering about that too! If someone can point me to a 5150 for $400, I have the cash LOL!

I almost bought one on HCAF for $600, but I didn't know if it was a good deal.

GC here in va, has a used one for 499 and you could probaly talk them down on the price if you live in this area. damn they had alot of good stuff today, they had a nice 1988 tobaco les paul custom for 1900, those necks are not as thick as the new ones and it felt great, but i stopped myself!

My cousin sold a 5150 Half stack for $450 a couple years ago...he had it sitting in his shop collecting dust for almost a year..remeber that John!!!???

If I knew he had it I would have bought it quick!..it was just sold by the time I saw it..I didn't need an amp..but for that price you have to buy it!!

Man. I was bummed...I told him if this ever happens again please CALL me..he's about 30 miles away so I don't see him that often..

I'm still bummed about it.. a half stack...CLEAN too!!

I use a Peavey Ultra 60 Watt 1x12 and love it. It takes 2 6L6`s and 4 12AX7`s. It is a very loud amp and alot of settings. Doesn`t sound like a Marshall with EL34`s, it is more dark sounding. I use as is, or with a Madison 4x12 and with.without a Boss MT2 pedal. These are very good amps and priced right used. If you want the Marshall crunch, this amp isn`t for you. It is is more dark and well 6L6 sounding, great for hard palm muting and Drop D.You can get a 1x12 for about $300 used or a 2x12 for $350-400 used. Jack.

If you play the blues and it sounds good to you, go for it.
Just don't buy a Delta Blues amp and expect to play metal with it.

Re: Affordable Tube Amp

I got my 5150 combo off of ebay 2 months ago for $520.00.
If you keep an eye out for them you can find them.
The deals are there just be patient and keep looking.
I love mine, I just started playing with an MXR 10 EQ in
the loop and it really has bought the Lead channel alive.
This is easily the loudest f'n 60 watt combo I've ever heard.
And if you put in good tubes you can get the rhythm channel
to clean up nicely (contrary to popular belief).

I've got JJ's in mine (2 low gains in V3 and V4) and if I
keep the pregain on the rhythm channel at 4 or below and
use the EQ it sounds amazingly good. It's not Fender clean
but it's definitely a lot nicer than it was when I got it.
Add a touch of chorus and it actually sounds really nice.
I run the lead channel pregain at 5-6 and use that as my distortion channel.
With the JJ's in there the amp actually responds to my
guitar volume control.
The more I play around with this thing the more I love it!
Amp fukking rocks
and if you don't want to keep it you will have noooooo
problem selling it. Seems these are always in demand.
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?
