Okay, here's a bit of advice from someone who managed a music store and sold hundreds of Crate amps. The Blue Voodoo series are very poorly constructed with cheap components to keep the overall production costs down. I actually quit stocking them due to the numerous service issues they had. Their sound is servicable, but nowhere close to many of the best amps out there...or the 5150.
I would say your money is definitely better spent elsewhere.
The only Crates that I would recommend are their solid state practice amps...decent low volume tones to jam late at night or figure out new tunes/licks with (not band practice...they will be lost in the mix).
Don't ever let an artists gear trick you into thinking you will get a similar tone. Many of them have their equipment customized or use something completely different than what they endorse altogether (like Zakk with his JCM800's hidden behind his Ampegs when he endorsed them). And studio magic can create tones that most people, frequently even the artist, can never reproduce live.

Well said bro.

Well, the guy I might buy the BV from is someone here on the boards who has 2 of them, just took it to a shop and put new tubes in + maintaince he says, I am not gonna name names, but if he would buy 2, and he just got it looked over, Im assuming it would be great, cause all I keep hearing is 50% of people say they are great, and 50% say they are poorly constructed, so maybe the maintance would eliminate the "poorly constructed" ones..

I do understand studio CDs are not just an amp and guitar, but I also have effects, so im not really worried, I just want something that is loud and would work great with that booming sound, and I would like to try a tube amp, and I trust Crate and if their BV300 is so great, must be decent afew levels below it

Hows the Crate GT1200H Half Stack? It is becoming a big consideration due to my budget..

Obviously, there is no need for more discussion. Your mind is set, was set before you asked it seems, so buy the Voodoo. I'm sure it will be just fine.

actually the WHOLE POINT of this thread was to suggest what combination there would sound best, not to suggest just to buy a 5150 every post. You guys are like the dudes on the Megadeth boards, "Buy a Dv8 or you will always have a shit guitar" lol

Re: Tell me if this combination would sound ok?

No, "we" recommend a tried and true unit that is heads above the unit you are asking about in many ways and in close the same range of pricing.

Sometimes you might be well served to take advice from people who have played tube amps for 27 years and owned and played live with a crapload of amps (like myself) or people that service and sell them like other people on the board who have replied in this thread offering good advice.

We are trying to "give" you some benefit of our years of wasting money on stuff and painful learning experiences...

I don't own 5150s anymore and could care less if you get one.

If I were like the guys on the Megadeth boards, I'd say you have to buy my CAE3+se and VHT2150 like mine or you suck. I'm trying to tell you what my experience has been on something in your price range.

I don't wish to sour a deal of a fellow JCFr and I'm sorry I ever offered any advice. My apologies to who ever it is.

Re: Tell me if this combination would sound ok?

Yeah, buy a 5150. Sound like everyone else. You're stupid if you don't buy a 5150, because then you won't fit in. Blue Voodoos are garbage, sound like shit, and fall apart when you look at them sideways. (weirdly enough, mine has worked flawlessly for 3+ years)

Blah, blah, blah, blah...

"Mustaine has possibly the best metal tone in existance"

I love old Mustain, but Mustain has never had anything close to a good tone. To my ears the Blue VooDoo should be called the Blue DooDoo, but what do I know? I am one of the few that like the Carvin Legacy. For the price of the BV I would think you could check out a Carvin MTS or, dare I say it, a 5150, or a Peavey Classic series head or a Laney or...

I think mustaine had great tone on everything AFTER SFSGSW... Rust in peace just has amazing tone for bass, guitar and drums.. That really was a masterpiece in terms of metal albums

What...?

I think I observed some "misunderstanding" here..ummm..read John's post again..

I MUST say this..If you don't want the opinions don't ASK for the advice.

We don't even own 5150s anymore..but we did own ALOT of them..I had 5, along with a bunch of other different amps. I had a local friend that owned a BV..he likes it...they're nothing "special" to me..but it made him happy...so cool!

BTW..Arch Enemy and Van Halen use 5150's..Ummmm..they sound NOTHING like each other..along with countless other players that use em....just like any brand amp.

ANY amp is to project your own style and personality...It's the player NOT the amp that gives your "signature" sound. You just have to find the amp that works best for you.

If you LIKE the Blue Voodoo ..peachy..like I advised earlier..I discovered along with the dudes buying one at GC..a BBE in the loop works "well" with them..

BTW ..I think Kranks totally suck ass but my favorite player uses one..who am I to tell Jeff Loomis what to use.

If Jeff would ASK me my advice...I'd say Uberschall..

If I didn't have the means to buy an Uberschall..I'd still be playing a 5150...because they always delivered the good for me...especially for the dough!

Bill Z Bub...the voice of reason

Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

Bill, I'm gonna have to try my BBE with my Blue Voodoo again. I tried it once, but it made it sound all high end, and tinny. Maybe I just had it set wrong. I'll try again.
