mh....two things:
-chances are you won't like the mark II c+ as much as you might think, it's a totally different animal than a recto
-a boost (tube screamer etc) in front of the recto and maybe EMG pickups definitely add a lot of tightness. ask andy sneap and nevermore listen to their last 3 records and tell me that ain't tight

It was not until I heard the Uberschall, that I had succumed to a sonic misfortune..it will kick the dick right off ya..

You'll be at the ER with your dick in your shirt pocket!!

Now, isn't that what we all want??!!

[/ QUOTE ] I need to try one out again with passive humbuckers. I think the EMG's took away some of the characteristics. There is this local band's lead guitarist that played with an uberschall & genz benz fullstack with a les paul. His tone was really good and cut thru the mix perfectly. The other reason that I didn't like it might have been that it could have been defective at the store that I tryed it out at. I noticed their ecstacy was missing knobs. They are the only Bogner dealer where I live so that was the only place to try one.

[/ QUOTE ]You'd probably love the Framus Cobra then. If you get one, make sure to bias the tubes hotter (I hear people usually do somewhere around 31mA-35mA). It will get rid of that fizzy sound and sound warmer. I gota try one of those out too.

Re: Powerball vs Fireball

I never tried an Engle but as far as the Dual Rectifier goes I use either the natural distortion of the amp or sometimes I kick on my pedal. The pedal I use is a Fulltone OCD. If you're going to use a Distortion pedal with these high end amps I would suggest something like the OCD. It doesn't totally take over the amp's natural tone. I use the OCD to add more saturation to the Mesa's distortion or to kick it in on the clean channel for a different kind of overdrive.

the cobra clips on RSA really sound nice

but I'll still wait for the new Mesa Roadster before committing myself

Re: Powerball vs Fireball

I just bought a fireball about 6 weeks ago. If you want an EASY amp w/ no frills that has balls to the wall, all I'll ever need, eat your children, kick a nun in the cunt distortion, then the Fireball is your amp. It's really hard to get a bad sound out of the Fireball it's VERY easy to setup for a nice sound. I play a lot of old 80's metal and also dabble in a bit of the new stuff as well and the amp sounds good with it all. I also recently bought a Mesa Stiletto for more EL34 sound and to try and cop the 80's shred sound.....but the Fireball is really a nicer sounding amp. The cleans on the Fireball are nice as well. If you want simplicity the Fireball is your amp.

Re: Powerball vs Fireball

well, part of the reason why i didn't really like my engl so much in a band situation (in contrast to bedroom stuff where the engl sounded great, best bedroom tube amp ever lol) might be that my other guitar player is using a marshall amp. as you all know, marshalls cut like crazy, so a second guitar might have a hard time blending with the marshall user. i just thought my engl didn't blend well with the marshall...at ALL. it might very well sound MUCH better when paired with another engl or a rectifier.
