    Re: question about rectifier amps

If you looking in the back of the amp you'll see 2 rectifier tubes in the Dual and you'll see 3 rectifier tubes in the Triple. Both have 2 different modes of rectifying, solid state and tube. I believe the Single has no rectifier tubes.

    Triple: 150 Watts, Class A/B Power / 6x6L6, 5x12AX7, 3x5U4

actually the precise name is rectumfryer

and the SS mode sounds better IMO

        Re: question about rectifier amps

I think it's a case of name twisting over time. It started out with just the Dual Rectifier and the name made sense. Then they made the Triple which has more power.....I'd say they went with "Triple" to allow people to realize it is very similar to the Dual, but "more". But while doing that they also confused the intentions of the original naming process. I guess they could have called the "Triple" the Dual Rectifier Plus or something like that.

          so hold the phizone

when you're using the SS rectifier you're not using any tubes at all?

no, you are not using the rectifier tubes.

              Re: question about rectifier amps

You are using the Pre amp and Power tubes, but not the Rectifier tubes when you selct the Solid State rectifier option on the Boogies. Jack.

                    Re: question about rectifier amps

To further confuse the issue, according to Eurotubes the bias changes when you switch from solid state to tube rectifier. The tube rectifier tends to give a colder bias. So any warmth you gain from the tube rectifier may be negated by the fact that it is biased colder than when in solid state mode. Mesa's non-adjustable bias makes tube changes easy, but I can also see why some people vehemently hate it and mod their amps to have adjustable bias.

                      not an issue.

it can be biased by changing out resistors in the tube sockets. or moding it with a bias pot. a good tech can easily do either of these.

i've had all my boogies (except for my new stiletto) biased warmer by changing the resistors.

If you pull 2 poweramp tubes in a Dual Recto to run at half power, do you need to pull one of the rectifier tubes?

No, it just might sag a little less if you're into that. the only complaint I ever had with my dual rectos (had an early reverse chassis and a rackmount) was in how the rhythm was best with solid state rectification and 'bold' and playing leads was best (imho) set to spongy and tube. I liked my rectos much more as recording amps than performance amps for that reason.
