  • Randall MTS series

Anyone got an opinion on these?

I played a 50 watt head w/ 2x12 cab today at one of the local shops. I have to say, I was pretty impressed with some of the modules. Granted that was just in the store and not in a live situation. But I might look a little more into these things.

I'm also curious. Although I'd want a combo.

    Which modules did you try?

I tried the SL+, the Ultra, and I think the XTC. I also played through one of the 1086 signature modules, from the guy in Disturbed. That thing was fucking tight!

I was finally able to try out the 100watt head and matching cab a few weeks ago. It was in a sound proof room at one of the local stores. I tried the Blackface, Ultra, Plexi, and Recto. The Blackface was pretty cool clean and with the gain turned up. I didn't like the Plexi all that much. Strangely, the Ultra and the Recto sounded very similar, though the Recto was a bit darker. I had the gain about halfway up on the Ultra model and it was almost too much, and this was at very moderate volumes. I can't imagine what it would be like cranked up. The guitar was sustaining forever. All in all, they seem like cool amps.

Everyone who tries em at the store I work at loves em. We've gotten all the modules that I can remember and each of them sound great. I was surprised with the Marshall ones (JTM & Plexi especially). When you play em with the EL34 amp (100 watt head or combo) they sound incredible. My absolute favorites for the high gain stuff are the 1086, Ultra, XTC and clean. The other cool thing is they all don't just have a generic sound that you tweak, but they are all voiced and sound completly different. Playing live my friend's love em. With their mic eliminator in their cabs and now the 20 watt head it's really cool for NY where carrying around a 4x12 is a bit of a pain, going straight through that actually sounds very cool.

Have you heard either of Lynch's modules - Mr. Scary or the Grail?

Those aren't shipping till the end of this month or early next month. No dealers have em right now unfortunatly. Those and his signature head have been delayed a bit because of some last minute changes to cosmetics
