i have the el84 version. its a great sounding head. its smoother than most 100 watt amps but it has this searing lead tone! its dark yet fuzzy or hairy (not fizzy). nice reverb too.

i don't recommend the 6L6 version. i could never get a tone i liked out of it.

    dislikes.
hmm. um you have to have the footswitch to get into the lead channel. (or just cut off a plug end and plug it into the footswitch jack).

you can't use both channels to the best of there tone at the same time. (all the old boogies share eq controls so tweaked nice for one channel doesn't ever sound as good for the other, in my experience.)

other than that. i love the head.

EL-84 version was one of the best lead tones I ever had. Very Marshally to my ears.

One of the best amps ever made...period. I guess I was never a Marshall guy. The day I played my first studio 22 I was done. That is the sound that always makes me want to play. My 1st teacher had the 50 and I played thru it every chance I got. Only damn problem ios that they PROJECT way too well. Yer gonna need a hotplate if ya get one...hehe
