Yep, 5150 (or 5150 II). Sounds good through a Mesa 4x12 w/v30's too.

I didn't have luck runnin' any of my 5150s thru any of my Celestion cabs...yeah they worked fine I suppose..BUT

Then bought a 5150 half stack ..it fell into my lap..$400 for the whole half stack..shhhhhhhit...in "MINT" conditon..from a friend...Fuck, I couldn't say NO!!!!!

I couldn't believe how much MORE "focused" it sounded with the 5150 cab..I only discovered this by chance..

I >>immediately<< dicovered that I could push the gain to practically 7 and stay even MORE focused that I did at 5 w/ celestions..as YOU all know..you can't get the gain much past 5 1/2 without it starting to "flub" a bit with your celestion cab...right?

"hey yeah Bill..your right".."that's where I max my gain"...

Yeah...I know..

The only problem we are having with 5150 cabs is rattling.
Live and loud.. you can't hear it.
In the studio they rattle like a mutha!!
We tightened the speakers, the grills, tried all kinds of things but they still rattle. The rattle is at the trailing edge of a power cord or especially if you are palm muting and chugging away.
The Mesa and the Marshall cabs are rattle free.

The amp my flub past 5.5 on the lead channel, but who puts their gain that high anyway? Even set halfway, the amp produces plenty. Then again, I don't play balls to the wall metal either. As for the crunch channel, you can max the gain and it stays focused and clear. Plenty for rhythms...

I have heard it many, many times though... the 5150's sound best with their matching cab. I'll have to try it sometime.

I have never played a BV, but I can't imagine it being much better than a 5150 for metal stuff. Especially in the sub $1000 price range. Tight, angry, brutality!

"The amp my flub past 5.5 on the lead channel, but who puts their gain that high anyway?"

I do..that was my G spot..right there at 5.5!!

what I'm trying to articulate here is the shefields allow you to push the gain more while still remaining focused ...and at 5.5 with shefields it sounded crisp and superb!

I have FIVE Marshall cabs sitting right here..I only had ONE 5150 cab..it NEVER ratteled for me..John did ya drop it down the steps or sumthin'..was it beat..this cab was dead mint and tight as a drum!

Tight..that is the word I need..the sound was just "Tight" with the 5150 cab...much more so than my Marshalls.

BUT..not as bad a using a Recto on a Marshall cab..man I tried every Marshall cab me and my friends (including John) had..it only sounded cool to my ears and theirs with the recto cab..but I didn't like the recto enough for me to invest into the matching cab..we just didn't get along well..

Other players like Loomis sound great with a Recto..better than his Krank..that's for sure!!

I saw In Flames Using 75wt Clestion loaded Ampeg cabs..like I sold to John..those cabs were from their Ampeg Lee Jackson VL100 series..with 5150s..they sounded just fine!

It may have sounded better with Shefields..because Cleve John and I both ran those exact cabs with 5150s..shit he still owns those cabs!

Of ALL the 5150 "tones"..The Amott bros has THE best 5150 lead tone I ever heard..The 5150 lead tone always sounded a little "dead" to my ears..but not when I hear them play leads..IMO!!

Hey, anybody out there try a 5150 through a Soldano V30 cab?

All this talk of the 5150s makes me wanna get one.

Eh, Ron then sound better with 75 wt celestions to my ears..in fact the 5150 shefileds are VERY similat in tone to the 75s..

I A/B the 5150 with two Ampeg Lee Jackson cabs..one with V30s..the other with 75's..I tried it from moderate to EXTREMELY loud Volume levels..the 75's held down some of the "flub"..and the V30 became pretty "nasily" sounding when pushed hard...ewwww!

ARGHHH ..I hate a flubbing Open E...or Dropped D where I always tune to....YUK!!

Much less flub with the 5150 cab opposed to celestions as well..for my ears..the less flub the better!

One "bad" thing about the 5150..I like to run the gain close to 6 as possible, but anything past 5.5 is pushing into into flubania..I had to cut out a few lower mid freq a tad with an good EQ in the loop to do so..

These are just my personal confirmations from years of fucking with 5150s..

i set my CRUNCH channel gain at 6 for my heavy rhythm sound, so go figure....you're a gain whore goddamit

interesting. mine muddies up real fast, it's basically unusable without a boost in order to cut some of that low end rumble. i found that if i boost it with a ts or sd1 and run the gain just a smidge past 6 it's too much. but then again, 6 is plenty for me.
