  • EQ problems

ok im running a randall rg100sc with my GE-7 and Digiverb in the effects loop, at higher volumes im getting that static-like bad distortion in the background on the highs, im just wondering if the signal is too hot goin in the loop. ive messed with the different level controls for the loop and the pedal itself.

and i cant run it DI in the input, cause i get ALOT of unwanted noise

the only things i have boosted are the 100 hz 3.2khz, 6.4khz and those are only boosted +5db the 200 hz is cut at about 3db and everything else is at 0 and the level control on the pedal is in the middle.

    any ideas?

What happens without anything in the effects loop? Do you have low and high gain inputs on the amp? My Peavey VTM-60 sounded really harsh (all high end) through the high gain input, but going through the low gain sounded perfect.

Sounds like a line level mismatch. Try switching the order of the GE7 and the Digiverb. Try it like this:

      Effects send--GE7---Digiverb---effects return.
This way, the GE7 will buffer the level going into the Digiverb and it might eliminate the noise. If it doesn't you have 2 options:
      Get a stomp box reverb
      OR
      Get a rack mount EQ

        Re: EQ problems

my reverb is a box, its the digitech digiverb.

that is how im currently running it with the GE7 being the first in the loop and the reverb ending it.

there is only one input on the amp, but two gain stages. with nothing in the loop on either stage its not exactly the tone i want with only the 3 band on-board eq and the contour control 1st gain stage is called classic hi gain, and the 2nd is the "modern hi"

i think im just going to bring down the highs that are boosted at 5 and just bring them down bit by bit, cause i still want that cutting, slightly bright, harsh tone

Ok.. I get it. If you are using your GE7 for shaping you need to keep the level of it very low. Basically you have to match the amp level so that when you step on the pedal it only changes the frequencies and not the overall level.
Another thing to try is to lower the treble level on the amp and bring it back up on the GE7.
You may need more range. A parametric EQ would take care of that.

            Re: EQ problems

Have you tried the EQ in front of the amp? I do that with my rg150es and a nice upper-mid hump in front of the "classic gain" mode brings out a lot of high-end bite as well as a bit of gain boost.

              Re: EQ problems

yeah now im thinkin of just putting both send and return levels at max and just bring the pedal all the way down and go from there

i actually used to run it in front of the amp before i tried the fx loop and using the fx loop i found that i get alot more noise when put in front
