  • 5150 head/combo vs. Carvin Legacy head/combo

For those of you who have experience with both amps, can you compare and contrast? I know that they are two completely different styles of amplifier. But what do people like/dislike about both?

They are completely different. The 5150 has a decent but not great clean channel. The Legacy has a fantastic clean channel. The 5150 has more gain and it is more harder edged. The Legacy has plenty of gain and it is smoother.
The 5150 is a great thrash/death and rhythm guitarists amp. The Legacy is a great amp for a lead player. The Legacy is louder. There are a ton more differences. The bottom line is that they are both great amps. It depends on what your ears prefer.

the legacy will not get you a real metal tone (at least not enough for me, and I run the gain at 7 on my laney combo)
