If you like it and are happy with the tone then that is all that matters, not what anyone else says about them. I've never played one so I can't comment on what I think of them. I'm glad you are happy with your new amp...enjoy

Mantis, I'm puzzled by your statement that if not for Krank you might have gotten a 5150 combo, combining that with your statement that your new amp had to have at least Fendery clean tones. The 5150 is widely known to not have a real clean tone. Its forte is crunch rhythm and solo lead tone. Sure it wasn't a 5150II? I believe they have a decent clean channel.
I'll admit I haven't heard one in person, but Pete here on the board tried one and was underwhelmed. He is a great player and also amp builder himself, so I put a lot of stock in his reviews, and also Jgcable's. I don't think John (jg) has played one, if he did I missed the review. Most who've reviewd them have either not liked them, or at least thought you could do a lot better at the price point. I have tried the Peavey JSX head and think that's a hell of a head that you can get for under $1,000 new. It has 3 channels and they all sound good.
But as we all know, it's what sounds best to you that counts! If you get your tone with it and it's reliable, cool beans!

[QUOTE=mantis]On a lighter note, I played the 5150 and the Mesa. I also played all the recto series and the lonestar. The lone star had the best cleans out of all of them and the Rectoverb I liked the gain channel as well as the dual and tripple rect. Dialing them in took alot of time to get the setting to the point where I liked the tone but It Mesa could build a Dual or tripple recto and put the Lone star cleans in it, I would own one. there nice and well built amps.
The new Mesa Roadking Series 2 has the Lonestar clean channel and reverb in it as well as all the Recto stuff....Amazing amps!
That's one cool looking Krank amp! I can't believe how big it is!! How much does that thing weigh? Anyway, very cool amp and I'm glad you found something that you're happy with. Guitar tones are like opinions, everybody has one, everbody's is different and as long as you're happy with it then that's all that matters... Congrats!

Mesa does build an amp with that, it is called the roadster, just came out.
Personaly i have played the Krank, and I cant say i hated it, but i have heard and owned alot better amps, but serious, to each there own, if you like it play it.
Right now i have a bogner uber and a bogner XTC as well as a Marshall 2204, 5150-2, flextone 2 head and a marshall 6100. My fav amp out of them right now is the XTC for Rock to semi hard metal, but for flat out metal the uber is the amp of choice out of what i own.
If i was a rythem player only i would just have a mesa dual, but for leads the mesa lacks unless you boost them with a pedal.
Personaly if i want a really good clean i would just have a seperate amp for it and then have one for a high gain, most people here hate the 90's nu metal, but they had the right ideal, a jazz chorus for clean and then mesa for dirty.

the 5150 was very nice. It's big like my Krank, My krank is taller then most other 2 x 12 combos I looked at.
