first of all the tone is pretty good on those clips, it sounds similar to George Lynch's modern tone, you know what he has used on his latest recordings and on the Lynch/pilson record. It sounds mdernish and has a good amount of 80's vibe in it too. But it isn't THAT modern compared to Boogies and Bogners and Diezels and Randalls and whatnot.
Firebird V said it needs an EQ to scoop the mids to get the Nu Metal tone, with Rectos and all the other modern amps you don't need to scoop at all to get that tone.

@ work right now so I will have to wait till I get home to listen to them.

I use the crunch channel with the eq in the loop and a Boss overdrive pedal in front and Whoah! Look out Jack!. The lead channel I used to use all the time and it sounds great ll on its own. The Crunch channel is often over looked and has tons of good tones there. You will need a pedal in front of the crunch channel to reach thick gain tones but it makes it so much more versitile. I dont think many SLO users even use ch 1 which is a shame because with the right pedal it is a demon.

I throw an Ibanez TS9DX in front of my SP77 when I need to get a higher gain more modern tone. Its really not necessary though because I personally don't care for the modern metal scooped tone unless its in a 1 guitar band and its REALLY LOUD.
I absolutely love my Soldano rack system. I was seriously considering an SLO100 but I am going to stick with my SP77. Owning the Soldano and the Vetta pretty much covers anything I would ever need live.

He used Bill's amp of choice, Endrik. Killer tone on that album. LP was some of the best stuff I've heard from both those guys in a while.

Bill, I know your not bashing the SLO. You just cracked me up with the modern 80's comment. lol Your Uber is an excellent example of an amp getting labelled as a one trick pony as well. I can't even count the number of comments that I have seen saying that the Uber is only good for low end chug and that's it. They also said the lead tone leaves little to be desired. Personally I love the Uber's tone. And anyone that's heard the Lynch/Pilson album or your clips know it has plenty of lead tone. Just like anything else related to playing guitar I think the tone is all based on the fingers of the individual that is playing. Because the Uber and SLO are good at doing a specific thing exceptionally well I think a lot of people don't really explore the amps other abilities, like Firebird mentioned.

yeah, George used Uber and Diezel VH-4 on that album. Starkz tone is kinda similar to it (George had tons more low end tho, that's because of the Uber's massive bass). But for Mudvayne or White Zobmie tones SLO doesn't work IMHO.

Yeah man...I hear ya solosit1..what's your name, I hate using "handles" sometimes..

The Uber always gets label as a one trick pony..it does cover alot of sonic territory...from AC/DC..to VH..to Nevermore and Iced Earth..people think the uber can't be tamed..but it sure can..I can get it to sound like a nice old JMP...but I always max the gain...I do..what you hear on that demo clip is the Uber with the gain ALL the way up...John was here playing with it..he likes it all the way up too..sounds great...I back it off just a hair and I lose that "crunch" i like..it sure does..

Hey, I know what you mean by adapting an 80's era shred amp and used in a modern context.. it CAN sound heavy..I do that with my Marshal rack and JMP-1..the tone sounds like VH/Savatage/Eidolon...but I use it all the time along with the Uber for my death/thrash stuff..

I'll post a clip of my JMP-1 with the Uber..the JMP-1 with my 535Q Dunlop wah kinda sounds like Dime..I'll go find it..

Soloist, dude..your band and your tone is kick ass..

OK..here it is..this too was tossed together over a weekend with a old tascam porta studio 4trk..this one has clean vox (same singer), ..the intro "off the cuff" solo thing is my JMP-1 and 535Q wah..no other tracks for "solos"..I had to steal the vocal track for this one..

LOL If you heard a post of my playing you wouldn't be saying that. That's not me bro. That's a guy from the Soldano forum that posts a lot of tone samples that he does with his SLO. He's probably got the SLO about as modern sounding as one will get though.

As far as name goes I'm starting to think it's dickhead with the frequency my wife uses it when referring to me. But I'll stick with Chris for now.

Another thing about SLO users/owners is that I noticed most seem to use the 30 speakers in their cab. Myself I like it better with the 75's. Tightens the low end up and gives it more thump. That definitely helps a lot when trying to dial some heavier modern tone in.

Chris, I use 2 cabinets. 1 has 30's and the other 75's. I agree with you.
Alot of people also call the 5150 a 1 trick pony with a crummy clean channel. I don't agree with that either. You can dial in a ton of tones with a 5150 and I never thought the clean channel was that bad. Its better than the clean channel on my Soldano, thats for sure.
The SP77 isn't nearly as versatile as an SLO. The EQ section isn't that reactive either. Its actually fairly unreactive! I use a G-Major and a Parametric EQ to tone shape. What my SP77 does have is TONE. Its that great metal tone that I hear in my head. Blackout. I would also say that SP77 would make a great preamp for blues. Just dial the gain down on the preamp to around 3. I play metal with the gain on 6.

Well regaurdless Chris..I always loved SLOs..man that was my dream amp for years but could never afford one ..so I had the cheaper Soldanos the Korean made 60 and the HR100..cool amps..not as cool as the SLO..but cool..

Never heard the rack SP77..I seen 'em..never played 'em tho..I always heard good things about them!

My JMP-1 gets constantly slammed by cleveland John..he had one....it didn't work out so well for him..so he slams it...but I thought his sucked!

My tatse in music got heavier thru the years so I moved to gainier amps..such as the 5150 and now the Bogner..

I still LOVE my JMP-1..as you can hear in this cheezy made clip..it gets the job done!!

The sp77's EQ section definitely lacks luster. It's a tone monster though. Especially for the price you can fetch one for. The EQ on the SLO is definitely better for dialing stuff in. The best EQ section I have had on any amp was on the CAE 3+ preamp. Still miss that thing. It had a ton of great guitar tones. But it definitely nailed that early 90's Megadeth lead tone. My favorite to this day still has to be the hot rodded Marshall's that Lynch used. The growl on "Lost behind the wall" nails the rhythm tone I like.

I usually get greeted with the "Dickhead" and a shot to the ribs. Of course I usually greet her with "Boobies!!!!!!!!!!!" and hands to the chest. lol That may have something to do with it.
