  • Randall MTS Series

Anyone try the Randall MTS series? These are the ones with interchangeable modules such as Blackface and Brown. Really just looking for a good clean and then classic metal sounds.

I've been recommending em for awhile now. There are SO many modules to choose from, and they all sound different with different guitars, but for clean and classic metal tones, the basic CLEAN module sounds great (prefer it to blackface) and the 1086 module is a very versitle metal module, although the Plexi or JTM gets pretty heavy too. They really are responsive to different guitars, what are you using now? And what pickups are in there, I might have used a similiar guitar on that rig and might recommend something for ya

A few different guitars but mostly a US Wolfgang with stock pups, 83 San Dimas with an EMG 81, and a Kramer Focus 6000 from the 80's (Duncan JB?).

      thanks

Well, I did try most of the modules with the JB in the bridge, so the Plexi is a really good choice to consider. I found I liked it better in the EL34 amps (RM100 head and combo) with the power section driven rather than the preamp section. For the classic metal, I personally like that, but I do tend to play with higher gain, but I think it's a good start. They make a lotta modules with different voicings and tones, so I'm sure they'll have something in the other modules too if that one isn't to your liking. I think I mentioned the JTM...the 1086 actually might be too much gain for ya if it's the classic metal your going for, but that's a very versitile preamp in terms of gain though, so you might find it to your liking also
